A Low Blow

It all depends how you take that, if you spend more time with your bike than your wife whether riding or working on it, or have you been with the bike longer than married, so there might be a bit of jealously between the bike and wife.

Sounds like you’re married to my wife Slick !

Years ago I worked on a drill rig in the Gulf of Mexico, one week on and one week off. One of my coworkers swore that his wife was married to another guy that worked the opposite hitch as him but he could never prove it. He didn't really mind but he said the other guy wasn't paying his share of the bills. Not that this has anything to do with Slicks comments, but yours reminded me of it.

One of my techniques of escape is to simply say "you're right, I'm wrong and you can have the last word".
Works great (some of the time) gives her no where to go in the "discussion". Unless, as she often does, decides to follow me around for a follow up.

My Norton was around long before the wife and when I asked her hand to marry I made it clear to her the Norton is number 1, but she had known me since we were kids and she knew my bikes were my life so she had to accept that and now retired I spend more of my waking time up in the shed/workshop or out on the bikes than I do with her, it works great for both of us:)

One of my favorites is "I'm sorry, I was wrong, I'll try to do better in the future. I love you. " All said rapidly in a monotone voice. Usually gets a laugh and diffuses the situation.

If you get audited by the IRS, and the examiner says "That deduction is not allowed!", you say "I'm sorry, I didn't know, I won't do it again!"

Ive been riding since I was 7. She tolerated the motorcycles and sports cars until my two sons entered into the family.
Somehow, and very quickly, the bikes and cars were gone and I was driving a 4 door Oldsmobile Omega (what a piece of junk!) with dual kid seats wondering what just happened.
For sanity's sake I bought a 1960 Austin Healey 3K I found in a guys garage that had been sitting for 20 years.
That restoration project arguably saved my marriage, kept me in the shop away from "she who must be obeyed".
I have really refined the technique of telling her what she wants to hear and then doing as I had planned. ;)
We just had our 43rd anniversary...

Man, you had better quit telling on yourself! If your wife reads this she’ll have plenty of ammunition to use against you. You’ll probably be okay though since you’ve been married 43 yrs. If you think you’re playing her, you’re the one being played. Lol! (In most cases)

His wife wouldn’t be annoyed, she’d just calmly smile... in the knowledge that even after 43 years she still has the magic touch, she can still play him and make him do what she wants, whilst he thinks he’s playing her to do what he wants.... ;)

For me, she tolerated the Norton, but when my son entered the scene, she began "I don't want you to be in that Dallas traffic on that thing!" Then, when I forgot to close my flight plan, and the Flight Service Center called and said I was "overdue", she heard "crashed and burned". So I had to quit flying. She was working on cutting out my deer hunting, when she had papers served on me. Except for her taking my son 1500 miles away, I am so glad she got rid of me.

My new wife, the one who cracked the joke that started this thread, is a jewel. I do not have to play games with her, or her, with me. Life is good!

Mine went after my "hunting rights" as well...it took her three years to grasp the fact that I didn't GAS what she thought about spending my time hunting instead of with her, I'm going.
She even threw a "me or the duck blind" threat at me...this was about year 5.
I'll give you one guess what my response was...
Now she checks the skies for what looks like good weather for waterfowl/deer hunting and gives me a full report. I accuse her of having a 17 yr. old high school stud who shows up right after I leave.

Truly sad your X took your son away, wrong in so many ways.

Marriage is the toughest most enduring and rewarding responsibility I have ever taken on.

My quiet wife of 40 yrs ( plus couple years together before big day ) so 42 all told .... cut me loose in ‘76 I left for PEI and 2 yrs of school , already deep into bike life .... she took up with a friend of mine rugby & bikes , along bout March of spring I’m due back , I get a letter , she say done with buddy , wants me back ! a bit of long distance affair before June when she came for grad stuff and brought me home , time between letter and graduation my buddy died in a MC accident , really sad , plus a wrench in my plans or so I thought , to this day she has never said anything negative bout my bike life , other than a few questions on affordability which was fair ball , I consider myself luckiest man on this earth on earth who found someone so right , been best years of my life without question ....
