hi all, on my way in UK to get annual roadworthy test. Got 1 mile before motor suddenly cut out. Wouldn’t restart ( no sign of trying to fire) till battery was too low for starter to engage. Rescued by a friend in the village. ( never done this before, except when ran low on petrol about 60 miles ago)
At home just now, measured voltage at flying lead: 12.4 V. But then connected battery charger to flying lead, and charger was on but didn’t light up red, as it did on a spare battery I then checked it with.
Then checked voltage at lead again ( no charger connected) and this time 0.0 V! Rechecked it , wiggling lead / back of connector block .....same result.
Battery was new less than 2 months ago, after previous one was very low after bike being unused over winter, but supposedly on trickle charge with a different charger (it’s indicator was damaged , so not clear if it was doing anything)
So......... what to check next:??

There have been some examples of the lead going into the main battery connector becoming loose through not being crimped in properly. Tank off and do a spot of wire wiggling?

Jan, some bikes have two wires crimped into a terminal which is not designed for two. They can become loose as Clive mentioned above.

@Stephen_Spencer discovered this after a long speight of issues similar to yours. Thread here..

Sounds familiar Jan - the ‘Light show‘ thread explains it pretty clearly. Also check the main fuse on the positive cable. This can dislodge. From memory the fuse cap should be cable tied in place for added security. Hope this is your fix as it’s easy to resolve.

Just for future. Mine shut off no spark took a while to figure out with help of forum members. If you haven't replaced crank sensor and cam sensor with Bosch listed here in 961 replacement parts, do it. Good Luck

Not exactly the same symptoms but worth searching out this thread, if you haven’t solved your issue Jan. This cutting out issue ended up being a spurious ecu fault.

thanks for suggestions so far.
Finally found time to check main fuse pack: the 10A “ECU Power down” fuse had blown. Used the spare: so now the charger will charge via the flying lead, which it didn’t with blown fuse.
