Hi all, I’m hoping someone can help.2011 961 so Just been for a ride and for the first 1/2 hr everything was good. Stopped for cup of tea, bike stared perfectly but on the way home bike kept cutting out completely, stopped , ignition off , restarted and away again but same thing kept happening, if I pulled clutch in and revved it got better for a while but then cut out again, stopped and restarted happened about 6 times in as many miles. Any ideas anyone please.

I’d check that the spade connection near the battery is tight you really need to crimp this up and pull it together with a cable tie. It’s a simple fix and you don’t need to remove the tank completely to get at it.

Hello like Dave said , You have to be sure the battery cable lug is properly crimped, a good connection to the cable itself. Start there and while at it , check all relays are fully inserted and check all fuses for hairline cracks. Don’t forget to look/check main fuse for damage in line and should be cable tied near the battery. Rare but some had it happen.

Yes, does that make a difference? It cuts out as if someone has turned the ignition off.
Will check connection's later
Thank you all

100% makes a difference. The symptoms you describe are what I had. Long story short, start the bike WITHOUT throttle. Don't go near it for 15s. Guarantee it'll run better.

Give it a try before you go digging

Was a right PITA when out and about with my mate on his Thruxton but was a complete game-changer for me and my bike

Dave, Did this happen before you fixed the fuel light problem?
Maybe something got disturbed.
What are the other symptoms if any? I.e. do you lose power to lights or clocks?
If so, as others have said check the battery connections ( you may need to cut away the shrink sleeve to check properly) and there are two fuses near the battery, which have been known not to grip the fuses properly, so you get intermittent issues. Both require the tank to be removed unfortunately. Have a look at the relays, and if they are blue, one of them could be playing up. Most folks swap out the relays for Honda or Omron which are of much higher quality. ( details in the alternate parts list in the resources section).

@Stu Bodycote has done some videos of the tank removal process. Worth watching these first if you are unsure.

Hi all, thank you all. Yes problem was there before fixing fuel light .
I wasn’t aware of the starting procedure, will give that a try.
Tank off and I’ve re-crimped the terminal , I’ve only got one 30a fuse on a brown wire and that appears fine and only one black relay.
Now I’ve only got 1 cylinder firing !!!! I’ve swapped everything over and still no spark on left cylinder so hoping a duff coil but everywhere shut on a Sunday.
Any other reason that anyone knows of please?

Try swapping plugs or replacements .

Hi,
I had the same type of problem a while ago. Everything running normal, and after a moment engine stopped, and could be started again.
In my case the fuel pump relay came (sometimes) lose. But still touching the contacts sometimes. On low refs the engine ran longer than when accelerating. Luckily I could solve it beside the road on a parking lot. Although it took a while before I found the issue.
Fixed with some extra foam pushing the relay into the socket.
Have a check on this,
Success

Thank you. Where is the fuel pump relay?
