Time for the 12 month service on my 2025 pcp Commando (first service was done at 600 miles, bike now has 1600 miles on the clock) and local dealer Teasdale, having lost or given up the franchise, doesn't now want to know. Norton apparently has appointed a new dealer (Car Barn at Beamish near Newcastle, about 35 miles away from me).
I presumed that, to maintain the guarantee, Teasdales could still do the service just as any main dealer could, as long as genuine parts were used. I was informed by Teasdales however that this only applies to cars and not to motorcycles. Does anyone know if this true?
I phoned Car Barn and the usual menu presented itself. Press 1 for sales or 2 for workshop. Pressed 2, no answer. Tried again later, same result so pressed 1 for sales - answer was " hello workshop"! I asked to book in for a service but was told the man who could do that was not around and would ring me back. No one did. Decided to try again, same thing again except someone did ring back this time. I was quoted £270 which seemed a bit steep for what I presumed was essentially an oil change. I was told that the silencers would have to come off (is this right?) and the head would have to be re-torqued. I checked the Norton service schedule and the head was re-torqued at 600 miles with no mention of being required again at 12 months.
They couldn't tell me there and then but asked for my email address to confirm a date to me. Guess what? - no email received and that was a over a week ago. God help Norton (and their customers) if this is an example of support for the new model line up.
The next dealership to me is at Nottingham which is 140 miles away, so I thought to myself I might as well go the extra 60 miles to the factory in Birmingham - but Teasdales tell me Norton no longer service bikes (or is that just the 961?).

Hi,
Mine is a 2024.
Judd Racing at Nottingham are local to me and did the 600 mile and 12 month services. I took it to Motorvated for the 24 month service, because of course the warranty was expiring anyway.
I believe Teasdale’s are right about the warranty thing only works for cars, not bikes. And tbh, you should try and preserve your remaining 12 months warranty if you can.
The cost of my 12 month service at Judd’s was similar to the £270 you’ve been quoted.
I don’t know if the factory will still service the 961’s, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
Hope you get sorted ok.

I am sorry to hear this is happening to you. The older bikes have been getting this treatment since 2020 . I feel your pain . Preserve the warranty if you can and then go to Stu at Motorvated and don't look back.

I’m sorry to say this, but your best bet is to take this experience from TVS Norton and get rid of the 961, and buy some other bike brand that actually cares about its customers.

I swear, it’s 1960s again and the Brits haven’t learned from their own motorcycle history, the Japanese are coming the Japanese are coming.

One guy I talked to was quoted £1080 for 'full service' on his Thaiumph....
When he collected it they informed him that the front brake hadn't been bled as the bleed nipple was blocked, but they could order one and do the job 'next time he was passing'....

I contacted Norton who inform me that they no longer service bikes. They say Oakmere Motorcycles in Cheshire are the nearest dealer to me, still over 100 miles though.

I'm beginning to think you are right. The problem is that I can't think of an alternative to the 961.

A classic is a better choice. Available parts are plenty and it’s not a retro. It’s real. And it’s authentic
I tend to think of the 961 as a classic with superior suspension and without the skinny tyres and drum brakes and therefore more suitable for modern traffic. The genuine classics I like are also usually right foot gearchange which, for me, is not a good idea when I have other, modern, bikes.
I do have a 2024 Moto Guzzi V7 which to my mind is the nearest thing to a classic, being an evolution of the original. It's great to ride, feels like a classic, and I love it. But it's built down to a price and the quality, especially when compared to the 961, leaves a lot to be desired.

I’m not talking about a 1930s Norton. I’m talking 70s
