Dear all,
First post for me and hopefully not my last post!
Ok for my sins I am now a 961SE owner #8 of 200.
As you do, I do anyway, when getting an interesting bike you try and find out its history. Over and above the, has it been nicked, hit a cement lorry peaking in 3rd, outstanding finance ect it would have been nice and reassuring if the NOCL had knowledge of the bike, similar to the factory records held for all the pre Donington bikes.
Sadly nothing seems to exist factory records wise for the 961’s, not that we know of anyway.
Having a data base would help anyone researching a bikes history prior to purchase. It is still advisable to use the checks for any outstanding finance, stolen, written off etc (HPI in the UK), but this wont tell you if the bike is original as sold ie was it an SE, SF or Californian etc. Depending on the information given, as much or as little as you like, by members a nice useful database could be built up on the 961’s similar to the information held on classic Norton’s albeit not factory generated. Having this information could help in recovering stolen bikes, checking bikes originality, and possibly help in registering a bike if it hadn’t already been done so etc. The database would be only held by the NOCL and be accessed in the same way as you do for any pre Donington Nortons.
If your lucky enough to own a 961 (even a V4) and would like to help to build up a database please could you email the following preferred information to:-
961register@nortonownersclub.org I can then add the information to the database.
General photo of the bike
Model (SE , California etc)
Edition number if applicable I.e 8/200
Engine number + photo (preferred)
Frame number + photo (preferred)
Colour
The following is purely optional, add it if you wish, the more info the merrier but no need for first pet or mothers maiden name
Reg number
Current owners name
Current owners address
First owner if different from above if known
Original supplier if known
Interesting mods/info history
To confirm the database would be only held by the NOCL and be accessed in the same way as you do for any pre Donington Nortons.
Regards
Tony Lockwood
