Is the 961 engine unit construction, or could it be used to build a retro using a Seeley frame and TTI gearbox ? A 961-based retro might be pretty quick, if set-up properly.

It’s unit. Why would you use a 961? Better, more accessible engines are available

That would be very cool to see this take shape. The motor is already balanced for solid mounting . You would be pretty much on your own though , but you know that going in. A Seeley 961 Norton has a good ring to it.

With a Seeley, I know what it does. With any bike, we need to make it work properly. The 850 Commando engine is bullshit. It should not be able to do what it can do. There are plenty of bikes which can be built, but once it is built- that is only the beginning. I would love to see a race class for large capacity retro and classic twin cylinder motorcycles. Racing against a new Enfield with a late or early Commando might not be all bad. However some people are beaten before they begin.
