I'll post pics once I upload to flickr. 7 of us did 872 km on Saturday . 961 was trouble free. Ran amazing. With all the rain We've been having, I haven't got out much this year. So we made up for it. Just shy of 10,000 miles on my bike. I thought it was going to roll over but didnt. Maybe next weekend. If the rain holds off.

*edit. Sat did the ride. Detailed the bike yesterday. Still sore.

Good on you. That's an impressive number for one day on any bike. But no reason the 961 can't be relied on for a day like that, right? Thanks for posting.

Hello Richard-7 , 541 miles is a good long ride. Left early in the morning and got back before sunset ? Nice pictures .

Nice.

That's with Sport/SE bars and standard seat. (No cover)?

I've done 1200kms on a few bikes - this is not one of them :)

Impressive.

Sheep skin seat cover with a pad underside went a long way. Same one I used to ride to north carolina. Standard bars tilted back. We had a support vehicle so I didnt have to even have a back pack. Plus needed to top up oil because of oil in airbox. I wil be addressing this issue in winter. More to come on that later.

I think 600km is my new max on this bike. I am still sore today. That vibration is killer (in a bad way).

But we had fun. And lots of twisties and hills so Norton was right choice.

Richard,
Will you be drilling out the oil drain holes in the head to resolve the oil in your airbox issue?

Yup. Thats part of it. Just like Harley did. I still talk to John Favil (Norton Harley engineer who designed a ton of great features for both companies) We spoke the other day. He called me out of the blue. Great guy. He did speak to Norton 2 years back and so did I but instead Norton chose to add the vent box kit. So perhaps fell on deaf ears. But my dads bike had a bad oil in airbox issue and now ZERO oil for last season and this season.

PS I had to replace 3/4 litres of oil for that trip. I brought a 1 litre bottle of synthetic and only have 1/4 litre left.

Sounds like the right way to resolve the OIA (oil in airbox) issue - attack the root cause of the problem.
I'm going to get and install the Norton breather kit for the short term fix, but I'd like to hear how your fix works out.
Please keep us all up to date on your progress.

With my warranty expiring in December I am considering your offer from a while back. If you have the time that is. I don't have a whole lot of oil in my airbox, but I'd rather address it properly.

I doubt I could exceed 150 miles. The last longish ride I did was under 110 miles. I was forced to pull over because both hand and my shifting foot had cramped solid.
