850 valve clearance mileage????

Hi` guys I was just wonderng after about how many miles do you check your valves?? I looked in the books and cant find anything :? Thanks

Section K3 in the Workshop Manual (which really is the owners manual these days ?) under Routine Maintenance says valve clearances every 3000 miles.

But if its just been rebuilt - before you go out the workshop door, again at about 2 miles after the once around the block, after the first head retorque, and then with each head retorque. And if you hear any funny noises....

I have found the 850 holds its valve lash for a very long mileage - assuming of course the head has settled down after the usual torque routine. Around 10,000 miles is when I check them and generally nothing to adjust. At present I have fitted Mushroom Head adjusters and will see how they go over the next 12 months.
