Does it matter which way round my new 850 pistons face?

Also my new AE pistons came with two compression rings that look exactly the same. Yet I have read that the top ring should be a chrome one.

Depends who's rings were fitted as there are variations, best ask the seller what rings were supplied, Hastings possibly.

750 pistons need to be orientated to match the valves, 850's do not unless you have increased the compression and the valves are in danger of touching the pistons, then you cut valve depressions and the pistons become handed.

If they are actual old stock AE (not JCC) Hepolites then I don't think that's unusual.
