850 MK3 ride

Just got back from a great ride in the Mountains on my MK3. Rode through a swarm of bees and got stung a few times. Mk3 runs great, had a really good blat. Surprisingly not too much traffic for a Friday afternoon. Here is a photo:

That's right; rub it in... Very nice looking bike you have there. I hope there's no long-term effects from the bee stings.

I'm jealous-not only for the bike but for the weather, too. Getting ready to build an Ark around here.
 
Wow .... very cool Jerry 8) I do miss Southern Cal sometimes. Back in the early 80s, I rode thru a swarm of bees (on Camp Pendelton) myself ... and got stung several times. :x As I remember, they just came out of nowhere, ugh.

My favorite rides were riding up to Palomar mountain, or taking the Ortega Highway to Lake Elsinore. Although HOT in the summer, another great ride is going thru the Joshua Tree national monument. Cheers, and thanks for posting. :)
 
Riding back to New England from Asheville last year on my Mark111, I was on a section of Interstate 81 in North Carolina or Virginia. A hornet found it's way into my jacket and under my shirt. As I was trying to get off the highway, it stung me 3 times. I tried to kill it under my shirt, but it flew away unharmed! I was not happy, but , fortunately I am not allergic to hornet venom, .
As anyone should know, if you are allergic, keep your EpiPen handy.
 
A hornet sting sounds no fun at all.

About 10 years ago I was riding around a nearby canyon and I felt something on my face. I squashed it with glove. Within the next few mins I was lying on the side of the road in a terrible mess. Later we found a squashed black widow spider. I think it must have been in one of the air vents in the helmet. That was no fun either. It took me over a day to recover and someone else had to ride my bike back. I still have a little mark on my face from it.

Also, I remember years ago my friend Ian was giving me a lift somewhere on the back of his T140 and a bee got stuck up in his nose and stung the inside of his nose. That was pretty bad for him.

Beautiful bike, we travel to Fullerton a lot, wife and I visit the grand kids. Oh and we do say hi to there parents, :roll:

Congrats on your new ride. It must feel good.

Stings: Something got me inside my boot once. I thought it was a bee but then it stung me again. It was a pissed off wasp. I was at speed and swatting at the boot trying to kill it. Got me several times before it left me alone.
 
Beautiful bike, I love the look of the Corbin Smuggler. I have one on my Honda ST1300 and saving my Shekels to get one for my Commando.
 
The corbin smuggler looks good and its nice to have a tool area. It is too heavy though. I have not weighed it, but without tools it has to be 20lbs. I dont think I would get one again..

I always wonder why Corbin didn't put a hollowed out section under the butt portion (Gun Fighter) of the seat. Something large enough from some tools or paper work that could be accessed from the bottom.

how is the comfort of the Corbin, and is the seat height higher or lower the stock seat?
 
Old hobot had the right idea: you need two Commandos, one perfectly stock and the other
to modify to your heart's delight. Ludwig, who no longer posts here, figured it out early on
that the best idea was to lose weight. You can toss 50 pounds off without a huge effort.
Go pick up a 50 pound weight and you can see what a change it makes. Heck, Ludwig
lost 100 pounds!
Free power is what it is.

Someone stated that a Harley and a Commando have about the same HP, Harley is much heavier and a Norton is much faster.
