hey team - so i've been noticing some little love puddles under my beastie after rides...figure a portion of it is coming from the two spindle bolts on the front of the case just behind the engine...wondering though - can these be removed with the case in the frame to facilitate replacement of the o-rings? or does it need to be out/torn apart to get at them?

You can remove those bolts and replace the o rings and see if that stops the leaks.
Don't push too hard when doing anything here, and push something out of mesh inside, those control the gubbins inside the gearbox.

Those 2 bolts go into 2 shafts that run in bronze bushes. If the bushes are worn enough that there is any slop in the shafts,
and they leak oil, plentifully, then its unlikely the bushes can be replaced without major surgery..
Only likely if its done a fair mileage though. Hopethishelps.

mmmmmk....i ask because when i turn either way on either of the bolts, i can hear the gears change...what is it that they screw in to exactly?

They screw into the big camplate and the quadrant (toothed thingy) as they are called in the parts diagrams, which does all the gear shifting.
It should not be easy to do anything to get them out of mesh.

If you undo them with a sharp rap or tug on the spanner, they should come undone without too much trouble,
And just snug them up tight again when done.

If you hear things falling into the bottom of the gearbox, time for Plan B.
(just kidding, this should not happen.).
