Graphite piston coating is still in good shape with tight .0025" clearance in Nikasil lined bore.

I suggest that in motorcycle road racing, patterns are important. I used to race a short stroke 500cc Triton. It's power characteristic meant I had to be very careful in corners. In races I was faster than most around the tight stuff but they would beat me down the straights. Some were riding Z900 Kawasakis. My main fear was being balked in corners, because if the revs dropped, I had to slip the clutch to get around, and the bike would go sideways. My Seeley 850 is very different - it has smooth, strong power delivery and I use it in a completely different way. I don't play the other guys' game. When I race, I take the low line in corners and ride under the others, accelerating smoothly from the beginning of corners to the end of the next straight. I could never do that with my Triton. Seeleys come out of corners much faster than other bikes due to their steering geometry and stability. Even at the apex of corners, there is usually room to go under, because most bikes stay higher in corners.
