74 850 932 carb
Just putting in new jet and needles.
Old needles have 4 very thin rings above groves
New ones have 2 large v rings above grooves.
Both have 3 positions.
New needle shorter with greater taper than old.
Which is the correct needle ?

I looked at the archives further and have few questions.
My carb bodies are

Stepped tubes.
Im the second owner and as far as I know believe these are as delivered. 220 mains. 106 needle and three grove (for clip) 4 small idenity rings, flat top of needle.
Looks like this is the proper setup?
Second question is: when did the blackcaps start? Mine is a 312xxx serial USA delivery Feb 74 manufacture plate. Since there seems to be a several jet and
needle setups and this would seem to be for the blackcaps, Im puzzled as I have I think are the original peashooter silencers (knackered but the PO gave them to me).
Im now running AN peashooters.
So: looking for the proper jets and needles for an 850 with peashooter and FullAuto head. I realize this is trial and error territory but can someone suggest a
good starting point? Carbs are resleeved 932/36 and 932/35.

According to my Amal list, 932/35 & /36 had 260 mains as standard.

Not exactly a case of when blackcaps started, but whether your Commando was built as a Mk2 (with peashooters) or a Mk2A (blackcaps) model, and from what you've said it would appear to have been a Mk2, and peashooters usually require larger (260) main jets.

With the pleated paper air filter and peashooter silencers, a 260 main would be used.

I can never be sure about the silencers but the backing plate for the ham can was firmly attached.
That is where the bracket for the ignition switch attaches so harder for Mr Bodge to change.
Common sense tells you a 220 seems lean for peashooters.

Thanks again.
