I have a shinko 712 in front and an avon roadrider in back. Performance is great with this combination. Nothing wrong with Shinko tires other than not designed for rear tire use.

Tyre condition with age very much depends on condition if storage. Bright sunlight and they will probably harden in a shirt period of time. Cool dark storage will considerably increase their life.

Baldy, is that right: Shinko are not for rear fitment?

If so, congratulations, you have actually answered the specific question of the OP (unlike the rest of us) !

Maybe it's because most of us value our bodies and machines enough so that we don't purchase inexpensive tires hence no experience to draw on. I've been watching and wondering how long that this thread will continue before it somehow morps into either an oil or carburetor thread or maybe both.

It lists front only use on shinko website. I had to replace the roadrider in the rear and the shinko still looks good. The tread patterns are similar and most people don't notice.

I still use TT100 largely because I can put them on myself. Looking last evening at the rear I can see it is nearly time
to replace it. It has 2k on it. At 3k it will have a bald middle. Used to rotate the front to the back but the bother makes
me less willing lately. Maybe time to try Avons and see how they do.
Even doing low miles on a Commando the rear goes pretty quickly so maybe tyre life isnt much different for the cheaper makes.

The Avon Roadrider that’s suitable for a 19” rear is a universal tyre.

Nowt wrong with them... but...

Universals only have 5mm+ tread depth as apposed to 7mm+ of a dedicated rear tyre.

This means they wear out a LOT faster, and I doubt they’d be any better in that respect than your Dunlop’s.

Thanks for all the info...Think the avon am26s at 98.00 delivered may be my choice...seems to be a respected tire...

THanks to everybody on this forum..You helped get my Norton back on the road...I will put a new tire on the front..address a slight backfire on throttle let up on the right side..Its been a blast to ride...but I am going to sell...this is a triple number matching bike with known history and only 9000 miles...want 6000..was a bucket list kind of purchase and I just cant get used to the kick starting!!..Thanks Again!!

I will have nothing but the finest German Metzler tires on my mount.

Why does the sidewall label say " Made in China" in tiny letters?

Ok but I have racy Italian Pirellis on the Thruxton R

Damn, there's that " Made in China" label again!
