but unfortunately my topics get hijacked by an angry vigilanty team looking for justification, and the topic gets locked

there is no "team" of forum members hijacking "your topics"

there is no conspiracy against you, Phil

what there are is a growing number of people who are tired of your compulsion to non stop post to every thread, to reply to every reply, your own hijacking of other people's threads ending up making them about you
and pubs and drinking, constantly crowing about how your Mark3 is just the best Commando, etc, etc, etc

by the way, the only person with authority to "lock a topic" is LES, and he stated only a couple of days ago that he will lock threads that turn into teenage personal social gushing and that have no Commando content

and make no mistake, you are the primary single reason for this yet is seems to go right over your head

Every Commando I've ever owned has been my best Commando, until I get the next one.
Is yours not the best?

I think Les said he'd do something if the bickering didn't stop. I might have inadvertently caused it but I wasn't doing it. I had long since left the building and came back to see you guys still bickering. I'd gone for a ride on the MkIII. Beautiful day for it.

PJ's problem was obviously electrical. Obvious to me anyway given the described behaviour. Finding the offending component is the hard and sometimes expensive part. But he got there, that's the main thing. I'll bet he feels great relief. Pretty depressing riding something as fantastic as a Commando, but having it konk out on you shortly after departure. Very frustrating. Like running out of fuel in an F18. Just getting the feel and suddenly everything goes silent. Not suggesting I've flown one, but I can imagine.

All I can suggest is that everyone try and stay on topic as Les has asked, me included. Bickering can be done via PM.

Ah, the sweet smell of success!!!! I just got back from a little 235 mile shakedown run, and she ran flawlessly! The first 15-50 miles or so I was just waiting for the issues to arise once again, but it seems they've been cured. I'm with a lot of you in thinking the problem was electrical, but after cleaning the tank, new petcocks, new fuel lines, cleaning the carb, rejetting it, new EI, new coil, and new plugs & wires, I'll never be 100% certain. It doesn't really matter though, as she's runs great now. The only thing left to do is set the EI right on the nuts, as she can be a bit stubborn when starting. Thanks to all for your ideas, and look forward to being an active member of this forum. After 40 plus years of British bike experience, I hope I can assist you folks down the line.

Setting the EI right on the nuts could be a bit painful.
Haven't you got a bench?
Good luck with it and enjoy, too many guys don't enjoy. Well they would if they ever got on them occasionally.

I know what you mean, after checking and changing everything, you tend to lose track of what was what.
But as you say, your Unapproachable Norton is now burning rubber on road, and that's all that matters.
