My side stand is missing. The lug is on the frame with the little groove for the C clip. I have heard that this is not the best setup and they tend to fall off.
If I get a replacement side stand is there a better way to retain it? Safety wire? How can I make sure it stays on the bike?
Thanks

This would be great if it were torn down to the bare frame but it is not.
Is there a solution with an assembled running motorcycle?

Not that you are ready to do this, with the cutting, grinding and welding, but it is totally do-able with the motor in place. Although removing the primary will give even more access, it is not necessary.

When done, a little wire brushing, a little primer and a little gloss black and your done.
When I got my bike it had one of those clamp on units. LAME! The po even welded part of it to keep it in place.

Believe me or not, this IS the real solution. Sooner or later you will do this and your will be totally happy that you did.

The side stands, new or old, are a weak link and should never be assumed as a stable platform. I use mine with care and I am gentle when both extending and retracting. The metal to metal stops do wear and the stand will appear to have an increased forward angle over time to the point where it is no longer safe to use. If needed, every couple years I remove the stand, weld up the surfaces and grind so they meet nicely again. Not a big deal and always worth the effort.

I love the side stand and the posture it offers when at rest.
