Just smashed -in my Lucas headlamp lens (butterfingers). Ideas ? Cheaper or better options ?

A standard 7" H4 lens will fit perfectly and it is best to get a motorcycle specific one....also once you go to H4 there are many options for bulbs, I've been using a Silver Star and it is noticeably brighter than a standard 55/60W H4 bulb. Plus bulbs have shorter lives but seem to do OK on many bikes as the bulb does not see full voltage, especially on vintage bikes. In a pinch a standard 6024 sealed beam will also fit. In either case you need to wire in a H4 socket (also fits a 6024), best to get a heavy duty one, easy to find at an auto parts store. Some Commandos won't keep the battery charged w/ a 55/60W H4 bulb but I've had no trouble in two years....however if needed 45/45 and even 35/35 bulbs are available

Thanks guys for the leads , and yes I would like to retain the pilot light feature in the lower shell as the LAW here in Ontario states constant lights on for any motorcycle manufactured after 1970 , so I've been running a micro-halogen pilot of 12 Watts to keep our finest off my ass during daytime running and the battery well charged. But if there is no real lens only situation I will switch over to these encapsulated ideas . My 2 local shops do not carry 7" lighting anymore. The wifey wants me to help build a Xmas wreath now ,so merry X-mas ,later. More ideas please ? Thanks.

I've got used Wipac and Lucas 7-inch headlamps with pilot lights--see "Your Autumn Project" in the For Sale section. My 23-watt halogen pilot light from Walridge has satisfied the local gendarmerie for fifteen years or so

I have the Bosch motorcycle reflector assembly without the pilot lamp, but I have seen them for sale WITH the pilot lamp... I just can't remember where

I don't think pilot light really intended for low watts travel - just to be legal in era when parked on UK sidewalks. Dim low beam arn't even must noticed to approaching traffic, as seen at rallys that look like warm yellow candle light parades with some added flicker from surface jiggles. Better to fit a bigger battery to run with low beam for reasonable times between charging rpms. LEDs of various colors are sold to fit in reflectors to cause a dazzle effect but nil dark road lighting.
