I got quoted on a price for the fibreglass housing only today for $200.
Seems very expensive.

$200 is outrageous, they are quoted in Norvil's (not the cheapest by any means) latest catalogue as 57.42 Sterling. Maybe your supplier bought his stock when the US$ was at an all time low. As JimC rightly points out there are cheaper non standard options, but if you want to keep it standard I'm sure you can get it much cheaper than you have been quoted.

Try MODAK in Melbourne - 03 9602-1229, they sell a fibreglass replica of the Lucas Beehive as fitted to 750's. I got mine for $50.

PS - these suit the 750 rear guard, and need some careful mods to set up on an 850 where the lunch box tailight fits.
