2S Cam into an 850

Always kept the 19 tooth, just love opening the throttle and instant get up and go and the work done to my motor it gets up and go real quick.
If I want to sit on 70 to 90 it will happily do it all day, but I like to keep my license, leave that for the back roads.

Hurumph .

Snotty gits went to TWO speeds , to loose less time shifting . Theres been Two 8.5 sec. single engined ' Nortons 750's ' in the 60s . One by Uncle Sam's Fineest .

23 teeth gets you your 112 mph . in THIRD . so tops supurflous . One less Shift . Which just leaves the CLUTCH .

' Letting it IN ' is a fine differentiation from ' SLIDING ' ( sliders ! on the Two speeds . sintered bronze ! Go figure )

STANDARD U.S. technique was often ' light it up ' . As In - Drop The clutch at full tourque or horsepower rpm's . Light Up the REAR . Control Wheelspin , on the throttle .
Usually the spin stopped in 2nd . in a car . a good rider might carry it into third . ( or top on a chen Shin ) TT100s being narrow' d spin up better'n a flatter AVON . perhaps .

there was ALSO a High Hysterisis factor whereby the Dunlop traction was GREATER uner limited slippage ( read DRIFTING ) than non slippage .
So adeption & finnesse could gettem going quicker .

OVERHEATING a Cluth is deleterious . However , ' Letting it in ' once , under Full Power ( Or bringing it up into it ) was mechanically and termothingsically acceptable .
Turkys STILL wreck Ferrari Clutches SLIDING THEM . New twit in new feroarey " The Problem with the new 456 is the clutch is only good for eight quater mile starts ! '
Oh Dear .
Shades of Phil Hill testing the manadging directors Aston DBS Vantage at the volksgruppen test track seven mile straight .
" watching the rev counter and speedo slowly but surely going off the tops of the dials at 175 mph " . " unfortunately we had a valve problem " WHO'D OF THOUGHT .
================

rpm D N E 6.000 continuous . 6200 intermitant . V8 vantage . Commando you allow for LAG . The magnetic tacho is a notch behind . hence KROBER IMPULSE TACHO's
on all the early 70's race bikes . Exact instantaneous read out . And no springy cable .

IN ANY CASE , Max. accleration would have the front wheel pattering or shaving a few inches up , for maximum weight transfer . One can gee up / throw in - THAT too . dears .
ALSO , if youre right foot aint already in the right pos'n to SHIFT , on launch . It aint gunna gethere gainst all that ' G ' if you got it lauched good . Full Stop . try it . caint bedone .
if foots aground . MATE .

Technically , the 60 or seventy horse , kicks it in the ass a good deal more than dropping it from 1/4 mile up does . at Launch . Why , if it kept it up , it ould even go into orbit ! .

2S Cam into an 850

THAT is NOT unintentional , its Brat. driving ! its premeditated . even if the Alfa bet it .

Also , if youve been brought up where your not impeded by nincompoops in shoe boxes , youve ben better able to ascertain what is required of you , so as not to slow it down.

There are two distinctly different things riding on public roads - and road racing. I would not even contemplate riding my Seeley 850 on public roads. The slowest it ever goes after the start in a road race on Winton Raceway is about 60 MPH in the slowest corner, which is a tight hairpin bend. And that is revving at about 6000 RPM in second gear which is a lot higher than second in a normal box. As it comes out of that corner the rear wheel loses traction.
Many people do not seem to believe that close ratio gears help the bike to be much faster. But with a road bike, wide ratios are often better.

I cannot even drive my car on public roads without becoming depressed. It has 6 gears close ratio and a 2.4 litre engine. It is nice to have capability, but it is a waste of space.

To my mind, living is about having fun. However many people do not know how to enjoy themselves. I get fun out of teaching little girls to become really smart. I always loved my jobs, because I only ever applied for jobs in which I had a genuine interest. I get fun out of achieving. The dog-fight in road racing is the best fun ever. I really love that. I can out-psyche most other riders. I would love to find one who could out-psyche me. That would be really good.
I have a mate who tries.
Driving cars is not fun.

A lot of fun for you AL but it's been so long since you had that fun.

You should come to Wales and enjoy it's 20 mph speed limits!
Not to mention all the average speed cameras on all the fun open roads in between. They're appearing all over Lancashire's favourite biking roads too.
They can't afford to keep the roads in good repair, but plenty of cash seems to be available for cameras

It's the green extremists using guerilla warfare to push their ideology.
Pricing motoring out of practicality.
Not just pricing.

Public transport infrastructure is shit. Therefore private transport is still BY FAR the best overall solution.

So if you’re a green nut job, what to do, how to close the gap? Either invest in better infrastructure… or place severe handicaps on the competition ?!

The latter of course… it’s cheap and makes it look like we’re doing something!

It’s very clear that the only way they can try and persuade people out of their cars is if they impose such handicaps, make cars seem less convenient, and therefore make the other options seem more attractive.

In the U.K. bicycles are NOT beholden to speed limits. So at 20mph you’re making cars travel slower than most cyclists are able to go.

The twat in charge of Wales introduced these shit laws and then promptly announced his retirement, leaving others to sort it all out !

In any venture there are four major risk areas which must be balanced and managed - quality, safety, environment and security. I suggest we should protect the environment, however our world seems to be turning into a large termite mound. Education is the only factor which has ever slowed the rate of population growth. However many school teachers seem reluctant to embrace modern technology and deliver lectures on free-to-air TV and Youtube.
I did a bit of sessional teaching after I retired. I always had websites for my subjects and ran classes as discussion groups. Kids do not buy text books these days, and copying is illegal.

Some things are more important than money. Free-to-air TV channels will not usually pay for content. In Australia we have advertising, religious, and horse racing TV channels. But none which are dedicated to education, the performing arts and music.

As a matter of fact I am in total agreement with you !!!

Funnily enough my brother-in-law is a retired civil servant ( high up ) and he knows the " twat " really quite well ..... he says from his own experience over many years that the " twat " is a really nice guy ... hmmm !

Doesn't win me over though !!!! ......

All I can say is with the state of the health service in Wales and the hours long ( sometimes over 12 hrs ) wait for an ambulance to turn up at your home I really hope the " twat " doesn't need one himself 'cos what with the 20 limits everywhere he'd have no chance of survival..

For all non UK folk ... I'm seriously not joking ... the truth can sometimes be alarming.

Norton ... phooey ! ..... forget that nonsense I've just bought an almost eco friendly NSU Quickly ... should keep the Gretas happy and still outpace all those cars on the road

Heck, even my 1950's Land Rover is struggling with 20 mph ....

😇😇

So what this all got to do with 2S cams in an 850, Al has gone off track and has been for sometime and speed limits, as I have said I been running a 2S cam profile in my 850 since 1982 when I converted the Commando to a Featherbed, but not just the cam, ports, shaved head, carbs tuned for it, pistons, crank balanced for my motor and frame, a good ignition system and full open exhaust system, everything needs to be built to work together and I built my motor on a tight budget without any over priced products and before the internet came along, but in the 40 years of running this set up I have done a few upgrades when I had spare cash, but my motor is still the same as when I first built it, because it works so well and is very reliable, the motor has never let me down except for 2 EIs and a few dead batteries and a few other things but my motor is still strong.
As I say it's built for the street, not a race track and give it stick it's so much better than when it was just a plain old stock Commando, so much better, from owning my Norton from new and doing the Featherbed conversion back in 1980/82 as well building the hot motor for the Featherbed and being a very experience road rider, it's one hell of a fun bike to ride, has all the torque and power where it is needed and the lightness and handling where everything is tucked in and peg up high nothing and I mean nothing has ever scraped while cranked right over, well except the end of my handle bars when I pushed it a wee bit too far from my own mistake or someone put too much lose gravel on the fast and tight corners lol.
I have a 1960 Manxman project bike (ex race bike of the times) I am building but I been temped to build another hotrod Commando motor and using Jims products, if only I had the money to do so, but the 650 motor was an ex race motor and, the crank is balanced and has hi compression pistons but the head was missing from it, I have a new 2S cam for it and have got a head for it and when done I be running an open belt drive with Commando clutch, came with alloy wheels, alloy central oil tank and a new alloy fuel tank but not real happy how the tank sits up front, I started to build this project for my youngest daughter but it's been put on the back burner for sometime but going to make a restart very soon.
I brought this bike about 12 years ago in boxes for $1000 but had a few bits missing off it and missing head, hunting a head for it was the hardest part, would have loved to had the head that was used for the track.
Norton made a lot of mistakes when they built the Combat motor and things failed but they can be built to be reliable these days.

But then not only a Norton with a 2S cam but any other motorcycle, car, truck for that matter, the only ones to win are the bicycle riders and who to blame, the people who voted these idiots in.
Is it about safety, don't think so be more revenue raising more like it catching every frustrated driver on the road with fines.

I suggest most people do not know a clear definition of the word 'SAFE'.
It is probably - 'a situation or condition where the risks are minimised to a tolerable level' - the word tolerable should also consider potential loss of amenity to stakeholders.

When a person is licenced to drive on public roads, they should be 'competent'. But that word is used by school teachers to describe people who have passed exams. Somebody who goes to university to become qualified, is probably not competent until they have worked for several years.
People who participate in organised motor sport, do not usually have road accidents. However some police seem to believe that watching motor sport causes risk-taking.
When risk is minimised there is always 'residual risk' - I call it luck. I never used to believe in luck, however to be killed in a road race, luck is probably a factor - the incidents which kill are often the most improbable.
