25/60 oil

Alan, I would worry about the "original" 120 grade. Seems a little heavy for me. The data base has great information and I appreciate all the work that went into it. But if you change oils regularly I feel that's equally important. Remember what these old bikes were designed to run on. I run a 20-50 petroleum base high zinc oil. I knew guys that swore by Rotella, diesel engine oil, for their Harleys, it worked but question if it was best!

well as i have previously stated i use Vulvalean 20/50 in all my bikes and the garden tiller too the 25/60 caught my eye for the 68 A65 BSA and the commando just curious

Remember that radial aircraft engines run at much lower rpm than our Nortons.
Totally different engines and running conditions, I would not use this oil in my bikes anyway.
Yabut, what about piston speed?
(I love a good oil thread!)

We used to run Aeroshell AD straight 50 in the Enfields so we could pretend we had oil pressure. Turns out that aero oil is no friend of ours. Aircooled aeroengines live in a different world. Low rpm, low compression lots of cooling air. Radials tend to use a lot of oil too. Some is ingested and some is leaked, they grow a lot when hot.
Stick with Jim's list until somebody does a better test. Don't hold your breath waiting for it.
Oh, and that 50 weight ? The price was right. We were young etc.

What about crank journal diameter and type of bearing materials. Bronze bushed or plain aluminum small end bearing!! Are they silver bearings or Babbitt?

LOL Everyone have a nice holiday!!!
