I'm contemplating selling my '76 version 850 Commando after 35 years ownership. My arthritic knee has no chance to start it again, even w the infamous electric start. It has 2100 original miles and is in good condition. How much should I ask for it?

I suggest a Kings ransom! :D Or $10K USD, I'm assuming if it's a 76, you are located in the UK.

Don't forget me as well!

Uh, the starter can be sorted. Is it more than that which is keeping you from keeping it?

Perry, I hope you can sort the starter and put some more miles on it before you hang up your Norton boots mate!

When I was sorting out my 75, I bought a replacement starter from Baxters. It looks different from a re-worked original starter, but I swear it would turn over a truck. Check out a re-worked starter or a new and different starter before you sell your ride.

Three years ago, after 30 years of not having the starter working (or just barely bumping over engine),
I read about up-sizing the original battery cables one gauge. Really? That seemed too easy, but why not.
So I took the original battery/starter cables to a local battery shop and had them make me a set just like 'em
only one (or was it two?) gauge bigger. Add new battery, installed a working starter and wow!
electric start now turns over bike like never before. more importantly it starts the engine. reliably.
Knees are happy!

Same as SolarMoose, 4 gauge cables and Westco AGM battery as recommended by LAB and the starter has never failed. If my starter ever fails I will probably go with one from DynoDave or CNW.
