I am working on my 1975 Trident that had not run in 35+ yrs. Among other things, I put in a Boyer ignition and just finished rebuilding the carburetors. I have new tubes connecting the carbs to the engine. The tubes are very tight on the intake and carb side. I have not been able to line everything up and push all 3 onto the intake side all at once. I have tried the reverse approach too. I tried soaking the tubes in hot water along with using soap for a lubricant. Does anyone have any experience with this or ideas I might try. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi I had the same problem, with my T160, I found the best trick is to fit two rubbers to the head I put them on the right hand cylinders, and then fit the left hand one to the carb gantry, make sure it is all brake cleaned No lube, start of pushing right side first and then toward the left, you'll get it. Hope this helps. Cheers

Similar to @Shelby-Right I put all three hoses on the head and the "roll" the gantry connectors on one at a time.

Also, some sell the hoses simply too small. You can put them in hot water (near boiling) then push them one at a time on the gantry and then one at a time on the head stubs to loosen them up. If you let each sit until cool, they will relax a little.

In a pinch, Vasoline will help but it's not the best on rubber - a mineral spirits-based rubber grease is better. But in either case, use sparingly.

Thanks. Mine seem awfully small and very stiff. I did try hot tap water but probably not hot enough to help. All of this helps. Thanks a lot.

I found if I lubed them they tended to droop as I don't have the stock filter box. Dish wash liquid and water probably OK, i think the hoses are 1 1/8 ? hydraulic return line hose

Did you get them on ?

I did get them on. I tried several ways. I ended up putting the tubes on the engine side first. I cut a small chamfer on the other end with a razor knife. I also rubbed a little liquid soap on the tube ends. After a few tries I finally got the tubes onto the carb side. One other thing that helped is that I carefully lined up the tubes on the engine side and clamped them in place so they would not move. Thanks everyone for the help!
