Hi All,

I just won a 1975 commando on ebay. Now I have to get it shipped from Denver Colorado to Southern California. Does anyone recommend a good shipping company that can help me?

Cheers
Jerry

Let see this bitchin machine.

1000 postbags in assorted sizes, a big stack of stamps and the USPS ??
Sorry....

So your the r***s I watched bidding. Trouble with the bike you won is that it looks in pretty good shape. It would be easy to just crate up the pieces and sent it, but you are going to need to have stuff like the tank, rims, engine, etc wrapped for shipment. Looks like this is not the time to save a few dollars.

Actually, it's a bitchin pile of parts.

Jerry,
I think you would be able to fit all the pieces into a mid-size SUV as long as the back seats folded forward. You can rent a Ford Escape for less than 300 bucks a week, they get 25 MPG and are a nice driving vehicle. Heck some of the economy cars have trunks big enough to put a frame in! Go get it!

John Van Dam has hauled bikes for me several times. He's a single-truck operation (as far as I know), so timing is sometimes a bit tricky, but I have total faith in him with my bikes. He also hauled for Kenny Dreer and CNW. Every time I've gotten something dropped off, he's always got interesting exotic cars and bikes to look at. Loves Nortons...

In fact, he hauled my 850 down to California from Portland late last year.

If you call him, tell him I said hello.

EDIT: I guess I should have looked at the link first! Packing that will be quite a job. Why not just fly out with your tools and ride it back?!

You see, this is why Norton prices are getting way out of hand. Some spoiled brat with a ton of money from California throws a ton of money at someone to get a toy when he already has one and we all suffer the consequences of his........................................ wait, I live in California, and I'm spoiled..............................................

Never mind.

I am kind of changing out. Will be selling my 1973 to cover it. I am only doing this for the starter motor and rear disc (and of course I like building them). It is a really cool early bday present for myself that I could not afford :) I am sure I am going to have some questions as never put a 1975 together before.

I am leaning towards the Alton.

Thinking about the shipping. If you are inclined to go to CO and pick it up, I would bet it would fit in almost any car where the rear seat folds down. Just bring plenty of old blankets and newspapers. Might work in your Vet/Ferrari if you stick the frame up behind the seat. Babe will have to stay home on this one, or fly to CO in you jet.

i played in rock bands and drove a 93 civic hatchback, and a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 hatch, so i've learned how to stuff fragile crap into cars. I have no doubt you could fit that bike in pieces into a midsize suv. Could even rent one with a roof rack and strap the frame to the roof like a bicycle!

i just took my 73 all the way apart and my wife and i were just talking last night about how much less it would be worth now if i never put it back together lol i don't feel so bad seeing that auction!

I am happy with the deal. Even if I got one for 6 or 7k (outside my price range) I would take it to bits and put it how I want it!

That may be the way to go. At least when you're done you will certainly know what's in it.

Jerry -

Try putting it up on uShip.com

I've had good luck with uShip, and you're almost certain to get the best price.

You can specify exactly what you want it shipped in (covered, open bed, etc.).

Cheers,

- HJ

Unless you know that the seller knows how to pack & crate, I believe a drive to pick it up is in your best interest.

Wish you the best of luck with the build.
