Whats the deal with this thing, the last piece to come off of the bike and it,s fighting me all the way. Used heat penetrating oil dead blow hammer. loosen the nut on the bottom and trying to tap yoke off. Tried tapping the shaft up Used dead blow and sledge hammer and a piece of wood. What I'm i doing wrong. Thanks Steve

Since it's just tapered and not keyed, try rotating the top yoke and bottom youke in opposite directions. That should help loosen it some. Then pounding should work.

It gets pretty corroded at the bottom by the nut. You're doing the same that I did last winter on my '72 to remove the triple clamp. The nut is the only thing you need to remove then drive the stem upward.

keep doing those things. Try some ATF w/Acetone mix as a penetrating fluid, and let it soak in. Also try the hammer with some brass between, that should transmit the shock more, and still protect the threads enough.

I boogered the threads on mine and ended up buying a rethreading die. They cleaned up nicely.

Got it, thanks for the help, everyone's help worked. Heated. twisted used pressing plug and beat it out. The treads did smash a little, used a thread file to clean up. Thanks Steve
