The roadster seat is a few inches longer forward of the mounting tangs.

Are the interstate and roadster seats interchangeable?

NO, they are not interchangable... Each seat corresponds with only the tank it's paired with, because each tank is a significantly different length, which means the "ears" which attach the seat to the bike, are in different positions on the seat. The seats also have the "imprint" of the rear fender embossed on the bottom of the seat, so each seat can't be moved by simply relocating the "ears" to move the wrong seat forward or back to fit with the other tank.

The only thing you can possibly do, is cut the nose off of a roadster seat and rework the pan, foam, and seat cover to work with an interstate tank, but it doesn't look very proportionate... When I changed my bike from a roadster to an interstate, I cut my old roadster seat down as a temporary seat, so I could ride around while I changed the bike over a little at a time... Here's a roadster seat chopped down with the interstate tank
