The sidestand mounting pin on the frame of my 1971 roadster has snapped off. Luckily the soft panniers prevented any damage to the bike.

I have seen the bracket number 063049 sold by RGM. Have you used this satisfactorially & how much dismantelling of the bike will I have to do to fit it?

Regards

Bob.

This is a good pictorial of whats involved. Just remember the sidestand is long and if the lug is tweaked just a little it can be in a funky position when the stand is up. Plus it just ain't cool to have to reach down and grab a grimy sidestand because you can't get your food on it. How do I know that? Oh, never mind, it's just another story of a naive mind traveling at the speed of light.

First off you will need to grind and clean everything up around there. Secondly you need to weld at many angles to get it secured. How much you have to clear out of the way will be up to your patience and talents. I did mine last winter during a crankcase swap out. If you have other semi major things to do, you could wait till then. To get it right, you have to weld all around it. What ever it takes, it's well worth it.

Also tack weld and check fit to make sure the bumper hits well up in the frame or it will slip under making it a bugger to swing out easily.

I am about to finish mine up soon. Currently, I have removed the old mount and set up a cardboard template following the instructions from Old Britt’s. I was am assuming this is the only aligning tool needed. I don't have a kickstand on hand to check the alignment. Is the temple accurate or do you still suggest having a kickstand on hand?

Kickstand. You don't want to do this twice.

The template is very close but it doesn't take but a degree or two to through it off at the home position. You might be just fine but take you sweet ass time and get it just so.

Bob,
I have my frame stripped and I still needed an assortment of grinding and cutting tools to remove the old pin support. It was helpful to be able to put the frame in any position I needed to get my tools positioned. Sorry, I can't comment on a engine in installation but it sure looks like it would be difficult to get the templet in the proper position with the engine in. Ok, maybe I can comment.

Hay boys,
Thanks for the heads up on having the stand in hand while installing the bracket. Its not what I wanted to hear, I'll need to source the stand, but I will heed your advice. Dang, I just can't seem to get any of these projects going!
