need help on recommended tires, my tires are good but old and am looking to replace with recommended tires. I just find confusing stats.

Most for all round riding Avon's RR are great, there is another thread going on about size, you can still ride with old tyres as long as they show no cracking or any other faults, why get replace tyres if there is no need to.

Show bike?
"Parade" ridden?
Or ridden in a spirited manner?

I PM'd you

If your serial number is less that about 141783 (frame mounted center stand), you need 3.00x19 Front, 3.50x19 Rear or the center stand probably won't get the rear wheel off the ground.

This has the sizes Greg said above. ‘69 Commando

Does Avon make a tire for the 70 and earlier S-Type?

The original front tyre would have been a 3.00 x 19 "ribbed" pattern, so yes...

...the rear, was a 3.50 x 19 "GP" according to the owner's manual, so not exactly, although there is the 3.50 x 19 SM A MkII...

...also, 4.10 x 19 is listed for the rear in the brochures...

...therefore, the 4.10 x 19 AM9 is the nearest Avon equivalent although it wouldn't have been available at the time.

3.50 x 19" GPs are available, but only in race compound. I fitted one to my '62 650ss when I first built it, as it was the tyre fitted to the bike from new. Less than 1,000 miles later it was bald! I then fitted a AM9 Roadrunner which looks similar & goes well with the ribbed SM front. This combination would also work well on an early Commando, but a pair of Roadriders would be better.

Road Riders for sure. Modern capability when out & about may save you one day from some other driver spoiling you and your bike to some extent.
Unlikely you are "hanging off" on the corners looking for that perfect time period drift of old style tires, and if you display at a bike show tell the "rivet counters" to go get stuffed.
Enjoy the ride.
Cheers

Road Riders for sure.

For the rear, yes, but due to the narrower stays and tighter fitting "1970 Norton Commando 750" (thread title) front mudguard/fender fitted to the 'S' type and '70 Roadster, there isn't space for much more than a 3.00 section tyre unless the later ('71-) front mudguard and stays are fitted which is fine on a Commando with a Roadster etc. exhaust system but not one with 'S' type pipes because the mudguard can hit the exhaust as the forks compress.

Re Road Riders, wouldn’t the 3.25 19 or the 90/90 19 be slim enough for the front ?

I have a 90/90 19 on the front of my '70 Roadster. Fits fine. Don't know about the 3.25 though. Now I'm curious if it would fit.

According to Avon, the 90/90 19 is 99mm wide and 647mm in diameter. Whereas the 3.25 19 is 98mm wide and 664mm in diameter.

Just checked, looks like the 3.25-19 is about 1/4 inch too large of a diameter and would rub against the fender stay bolt nuts.

A 90/90 should clear then? And would compliment a Roadrider rear too.

They do a 100/90 18 which looks like it would compliment the 90/90 19 well to me.

Check out the options inc size info here:
