1961 BSA Super Rocket Rebuild

I got a bit more done:
Fitted 4 spring clutch with SRM upgrades. Adjusted everything and clutch is working great. Got the primary chain adjusted. So primary is done. I bought 2 new exhausts from Baxters. Had to adjust them a bit (bend bracket), but got them fitted. It’s really starting to take shape. Here are some pics

You need to take that fibre washer out from under the float needle valve housing and throw it in the bin the bin
I'd also throw that cone filter in there too but that's just my opinion
Bike looks great and would be spoilt by that filter

Is it not the case that new Monoblocs use a fibre washer under the float valvw?

I've not seen that but it's possible? It'd have to have a longer float needle or different float or different height float needle seat to stop it flooding

Yes, I don’t know why they would do such a confusing thing, but I think that’s what Amal have done.

I still have more to do, cant fire up yet.

- L/H header/ downpipe, does not fit. That's the second one. I am going to try to bend it, but will probably have to buy a new one again.
- I have to wire it up and get a battery.
- Had a terrible time with the chainguard rubbing. It's because of the O ring chain (mistake). After hours of F****** about with spacers, I think I got it sorted.
- Kick starter hits exhaust.

I am nearly ready to put oil in and yes, start it.

My 3rd set of exhausts just about fit. I have to sort out the kicker hitting them. The stand does as well. I am finally happy with the exhaust.

First set were LF Harris and they were not even close to fitting.
Second set were from Baxters. They did not fit. I bent them pretty bad and still did not fit. No idea what make.

Finally Feked (Gordon). Thank You! They fit. I ordered these on Friday night from UK. They were sent by DHL. Got them this morning in Colorado. 3 days including weekend. Not bad.

Its got oil in it now and nothing leaking. Happy about that too.

I know Baz, I still got the air filter on, I ordered a pancake filter and it’s super crappy. Not going to fit that. Does anyone know where I can get a NOS pancake air filter for a 389 carb?

Sure is purdy.
Almost too nice to run. Make great living room art.
However we all know, motorcycles are meant to be ridden, and I know will.

Nicely done...👍👍

I think it’s nearly done. Got to do some wiring, fuel lines, oil in forks and primary. Got to bend the center stand a bit. Dangerously close to starting it.
