1961 BSA Super Rocket Rebuild

Its amazing how much work goes into it. I spent hours on this, so I thought the least I can do is post a pic of it:

Had a spare tank. I will be riding the bike, so decided I might want to use this spare tank since it’s larger. The one Brent painted is almost too nice. Anyway I had a go with rattle / spray cans. Followed YouTube tutorials. Brent I think you would be proud of me. Painting is definitely not my strong point, but very happy with how this turned out. Should be getting motor in soon. Got an Alton 12 v generator. Very slowly moving forward.

Yeah I know. The stainless nuts and bolts are quite expensive and it’s hard to find the right sizes. I keep running out of fastenings.

I de-rusted the clutch and found out 80% of its no good. I have decided to go with a standard clutch. The center is ok, but everything else is trashed. I have ordered an SRM pressure plate, which is supposed to make quite a difference. https://shop.srmclassicbikes.com/product/bsa-a7-a10-b31-b33-goldstar-clutch-pressure-plate-kit. The other clutch parts are not terribly expensive, compared to a belt drive.

Just ordered repro 12v altette horn as well.

A quick question and I think I know the answer (no). Can I use a standard amp meter (headlight shell) on a 12v system?

Luckily I am in no rush… Still got a long way to go.

Beautiful and pristine, puts my hack painting & polishing work on my A65 project to shame

Beautiful Jerry - I hope you will use the red tank AND ride it !
It’s just too nice to hide …

Exceptionally nice Jerry, as usual.
On that beautiful chrome sided tank, how's it done?
Is the whole tank chromed first, then painted over?

Hello mate, hope all is well.
The tank was chromed when I got it. A friend of Matt’s had it in Colorado Springs. I sent it off to Brent who made it look even more beautiful. Thats why I painted the other tank black. I am planning on riding the bike quite a bit for local. Got some nice a10 type of roads around here. I am paranoid about scratching the red one, when I get old and it goes in the living room, I will put the red tank on… yep, I am very happy how it’s coming along. I hope it will run as good as it looks, unlikely lol

Hope you don't get the rocker box leaks that I've been plagued with for over 30 years!

All's good over here Jerry. Tiding up a few things on the 74. it's close, Work seems to keep getting in the way.
Just wondering if Brent cleared over the chrome with the rest.
Sure is purdy....

Cheers....

On a bsa SR with big valve head would it perform better with a Siamese 2 into 1, with Goldie, or 2 into 2 standard pipes?

I can’t decide and have no experience in this area…

I have a Siamese 2 into 1 with a Goldie on mine and I would recommend it
I'd guess there's a little more performance with a 2 into 2 but mine gets up to 90 mph ok and that's ok with me
