This 1950 sprung hub brake lever return spring is giving me fits. The issue is lining up the brake lever in a vertical enough position to catch the brake rod. The spring is keeping me from doing so. It's a five coil type spring. I have tried putting some pre-load on the spring to get me close to my vertical position but then the brake cam isn't in the closed position all the way expanding the brake shoes part way.

What am I doing wrong? I haven't done this procedure before......I need some infinite wisdom from the group.

TIA,,,,,

Today I tried going at it again. The position the lever is in now might work but I won't know until I can hook up the rest of the brake parts. This is a restoration of a bunch of parts to make one complete bike and it's going back together kind of slow .

The 5 coil spring & offset lever for this project are different from what I have on my 1952 T-Bird,,7 coil spring and a straight lever.

My problem was resolved with the proper position of the lever cam within the brake drum. One quarter turn and done once the brake rod was on.
