00100 on the neck

what does it means the number 00100 (if i saw well?) stamped on the left side of the neck of the frame?

The actual significance of that 5 digit (00XXX) number is still, as yet, unknown.

We don't hear of frame stamped numbers much just the stem tag ones, so maybe yours was once part of a service fleet that got their own fleet numbers. Maybe just the manufactures frame order label with no relation to Norton numbers.

I believe it is a Norton factory or frame maker's (Reynolds? Verlicchi?) mark, as this 5 digit number has been mentioned several times before, however the reason why it's there is still not known.
