Following a post on a popular social media site where a trashed motor has been artistically displayed on a garage wall...
It’s a ‘72 with the rear case breather and the ‘starter’ cover plate.
I’d always assumed this plate was deleted for the 20xxxx series, but the parts book still lists it.
I’ve had two Combats and neither had the plate.
So the question is... when was the change made, and was it associated with the introduction of the Combat motor?

OK - 2 questions...

Jan. '72 combat 202093. Has the plate on the timing cover. Also has older style VIN plate w/o the weights shown on it. Owned since new.

Apparently introduced from 136618* (mid-'70) and deleted at 205024** so early-mid '72.

*(One source claims it was 133618 which I believe is a typo)

**(Possibly not accurate)

Their obviously was a change in machining set up to drop the 200000 series starter blanking plate.
I do however wonder if the sharp machining stress riser on the bolting bosses was simultaneously removed at this sn? See the pix/case has the stress riser AND the blanking plate
‘72 crankcase question

I had also though the stress riser machining was gone by around 206XXX.

Mine has the bolt boss machining of your second photo but still has the blanking plate. 204xxx.
