In some states to put ME, CE, EE, etx. behind your name takes a bachelor's degree, a year of related experience, and passing a state certification test. Considering that today's Master's degrees are about as hard to get as a 1970 associate degree is there any wonder? In around 1972 those people out fixing copiers, main frame computers, air conditioning, etc. went overnight from being technicians to "Field Engineers" and I went from being a "Service Manager" to a "Field Engineering Manager".

Brit and confused? "Engineer" in the US is generally an office worker or at least someone with clean hands, not a machinist.

I have a neighbor who is an Electrical Engineer and works as one. His wife bought new outdoor lights for the front door. He asked me to install them - he had no clue how to do it.

Scary indeed, although sounds to be car control software issue which happened to be on an EV
 
I don't know the specs on MG brakes but EV disc brakes are not EV specific in design. They can be traditional master/slave or electronic pedal motion sensor and hydraulics or there are now full electric systems out (Brembo at least have one). But any of the systems can be designed into any type of car.
Regen braking is EV specific but that is unrelated to the disc brakes.
 
Mass produced in China in massive numbers, using the cheapest component parts and unskilled labour sources that its possible to find.

And then we’re all surprised when there are issues…?!
