Bare alloy engines look much better in 961s than painted.
Affirmative.
Blacking out modern multis is fine, who wants to spend much time looking at those engines.
They're usually covered in angular plastic bits of bodywork anyway.
A classic twin is a beautiful metal sculpture that is the centerpiece of any classic bike.
Bare and polished alloy bits make the 961's appearance truly Neo-Classic.

I’m curious how people would feel if the Norton 961 was what we know of it now looks wise, but instead of it having an air cooled, push rod, parallel twin.

It being designed originally with a water cooled, over head cammed, 4 valve per cylinder, parallel twin. Just as what Triumph did.

Would you have still purchased a Norton 961-1200 if the overall looks of the Commando / Dominator still looked as we know them today?
Assuming the engine matched a similar appearance or styling, I would. However, the t120 fake carbys can take a walk.

Agreed but I’ve see some sweet lookin’ 961’s with blacked out cylinders, contrasting those polished ally cases - especially on the black bike!

961 Dommie over Manx Norton. Sorry but aggression over period cool in this instance. Contentious I know!

I wouldn’t care. If it’s a Manx, I love it.
Best looking Norton of all time. Perhaps one of the most beautiful bikes of all time. At least top 5

I've said it often, Dr. Bob, just buy the Triumph 1200 lump, and slap Norton badges on the engine, done!
Norton aesthetics, with a modern motor, hot damn! Almost no engineering costs.
Spend the corporate $$ on new e-bike, and multi cylinder designs, this takes care of the twins.

I’m not to keen on the tail end and some of the other visuals, but it’s nicely done.

If you think that’s cooler than a Manx then fair enough.

One has had more GP race wins than any other motorcycle in history and is as thoroughbred as it’s possible to get.

The other is a minimally competent motorcycle designed mainly as a fashion statement.


One is all about function over form… but has a perfect form as a result.

The other puts form over function… very successfully.
