What the ??

The problem is the height of the right side header/Xpipe. If it were perhaps 1/2" lower than the left side, the chain would not rub the silencer pipe. But then the right side silencer bracket would not be positioned to attach to the frame mount.
I see this as bad fabrication of exhaust overall.
This was SBN's very first unit fab-ed for the 961, so job was completed in a hurry for me because I wanted an aftermarket exhaust in December 2013.
You know the saying - the pioneers get the arrows.
Later units like your gen2 were more carefully engineered.

I'm not concerned though because FE tells me that the Theil 2-into-1 is coming, soon, maybe, dunno for sure.:D

But my Gen 1 never rubbed. My Gen 2 doesn't either, but did on its previous owners bike. I don't think it was poor fabrication, but more a poor installation. My brackets never cracked either. That could have been manufacturing flaw in yours. We DID however have ours installed at the same shop. Go figure.

I tried everything to get a better fit. Loosening the headers, and XPipe, rotating them, reinstalling the Xpipe and silencers.
Nothing fixed the issue.
My next step is replacement.
If the Theil 2-into-1 mounts on the left side, like my favorite exhaust pictured below, I will be a happy camper.

My search for exhaust system nirvana is leading to obsession.
If Ollie doesn't deliver I'm afraid I can only salvage my honor by sepuku in my zen garden.

That looks like accessing the engine oil drain could prove to be more difficult. I just unclamp the x pipe.

The racing exhaust has sprung connector joints, so real easy to remove lower sections.
I'm willing to pay the price to get that LOOK, but it's not available.

I'm hoping the Theil 2-into-1 provides more room to access the drain plug.
Also hoping that silencer is stainless steel with SS wading/packing, not fiberglass.

I know I’m not retarded, my mum had me tested! But, I cannot locate the area you guys identify around the air temp sensor where water can gather. OK, I also don’t know which is the air temp sensor. Maybe I should get re-tested!

Can someone please idenfy by photograph or description - seat/tank off?

Thanks

That's it right there from my earlier post, little shiny puddle to the left ??

Sensors in the middle surrounded by a moat of badness !!

PS. literally dropped tank back on this weekend but can take it back off if that helps ?

This image is standing left hand side, (front of bike to left) seat off looking down between the frame and airbox, torch to illuminate was on other side so back lite so to speak.

So if you have a Commando 961 , the airbox air temp sensor is difficult to see. It is mounted in the top of the airbox , forward of the air filter . It is obscured by the backbone frame tube and wire harness. It sits in a depression at the top of the airbox and threads in through a fitting which mounts the sensor in the air stream. It’s this depression that collects the water which the sensor sits in the middle of. Compressed air directed to that area will blow the water out of there and a shot of silicone spray will stop corrosion. You will need to dielectric grease the electrical connector to make the bike rain worthy and do this ASAP.

Thanks guys,

I’ll have the seat off this afternoon and locate.

Appreciated, as ever.

Steve

Has anyone used the CRG Carbon levers from AF1 Racing or similar CRG supplier?? Just looking at purchasing these and wanting to make sure that I order correctly.

Af1 says "fit Dominator" I have a 2015 961 CF, brembo/Aprillia levers I think.

Whats this please ?? I don't seem to have one and cant seem to see in the manual I have ??

Filter? non-return valve ??

What the ??

There is a screen filter in there . When you change oil you should clean this out too . It will stop debris from the oil tank getting to the oil pump and sticking the check valve .

Thanks Tony, as mentioned my 2015 961 doesn't have one ? well at least not there, there does seem to be something similar but smaller on the pipe to the oil cooler front of the frame. ??

Edit**

This is what i have at front, thought it was merely a coupler/joiner of some sort

My 2014 doesn't have one either, they seem to be a later addition.

do the later bikes have this coupler/joiner perhaps a non return valve to stop the oil above in the cooler form sumping ??

This is the one way valve fitted to the older bikes to stop wet sumping from the return side of the oil tank . The newest bikes have a Frame redesign that brings the oil back to the tank above the level of the oil and do not need this one way valve. Exactly what year or vin this happened was unclear to me . But I think from 2018 on perhaps ? Maybe a bit earlier ?? So if you do not have this and when you do your next oil change check this. When you remove the return side oil pump banjo , if you collect an amout equal to about 2 liters in the pan .You won't get all the oil because the return line is not at the very bottom. Then all of your tank oil came out and you should install this check valve. Especially if you are showing signs of wet sumping . It seems not to matter how much we talk about this , somebody doesn't know. If the oil on your dip stick slowly decreases over time while parked then you are wet sumping . The oil can escape from the tank from the feed side and the return side too (on older bikes) . This can be fixed permanently on all 961's , The oil level in your tank should NOT decrease over time . Or email Norton and find out if they say if your bike needs it , then have it installed. Its easy to do of course .

Ok so I have a factory non return valve by the looks !! Thanks Tony a wealth of information as usual.

Is it just me or is my newly installed BOSCH CAM sensor kinda living life dangerously exposed to everything ??

Assuming if that gets hit with debris off the road could cause some issues with the ECU throwing a wobbly. ??
