URGENT 2015 INOA Rally Information

Greetings Rally Goers!
If you are attending the Rally, or even considering attending, plesase read this message-we need your help TODAY.

This year's Rally will be held in Adsheville, NC and promises to be the best Rally in recent years, with great new events, music, rides and activities. The Rally site will be at the KOA Campground in Swannanoa, NC (aka KOA Asheville East). THe KOA has agreed to accept Rally attendees only for that week, but only for a VERY limited time. After that, the KOA will be opened up registration to the General Public, so you need to reserve your camp site NOW, TODAY, PRONTO!!!! If you wish to reserve a block of spaces for your club or Chapter, you can do so by phone, but group blocks are going fast and will be virtually impossible to get by mid February, so do it TODAY!

If you procrastinate, you may be given a space away from your fellow Rally attendees within the "general population", or worse, not get a space at all, as this KOA sells every space, every day in July! Even if you are not sure whether you can make it, make a reservation. The reservation fee is one night's stay ($35 up, depending on size) and is refundable with only a $10 penalty, so if you are even THINKING about coming, please make a reservation today to help Rally organizers keep the KOA "all Norton" for the week.

When calling, be sure to tell the KOA reservationist that you are with the Norton Rally, otherwise they will not take your reservation during our agreed exclusive period, which ends soon.

Because of KOA rules, you have to make TWO reservations this year: One for your camp site and and one for Rally registration. Here's how

IMPORTANT: Attendees must tell the KOA staff that they are reserving space for the INOA Rally.

Rally Registration:

Online: Go to http://www.nortonrally.com . Click on “2015”, “Rally Registration”. Scroll down to form. Form can be printed and mailed or completed online via INOA members’ accounts. Norton News will also have a registration form, but online registration is encouraged.

You immediate action will resolve this potential issue, making the Rally most enjoyable for all.

Got my attention. I've reserved a motorhome site on the lake. Who else is going?

How many already signed up? How many are needed to make the rally a success...at least break even? I'm not really inclined as it's more than 72 hours driving time from central California to North Carolina.

I have one of the cabins reserved. Our club, New England Norton Owners has reserved a block of tent sites. Any NENO members going, call one of the NENO officers.

Yeah, it's 2330 miles each way for me from SoCal, and I'm not looking forward to driving my crappy 1975 motorhome there and back. On the other hand, I don't know how many more of these rallies I'll be able to make, and it looks like a beautiful riding area, so I'm going for it with my grandson. At Ashland last year he fell in love with my MK3, and I was stuck with riding the Kawi KZ650. I'm hoping to improve on that this year. All I have to do is rebuild both MK3s in time. Should be no problem, right? What could go wrong?

I've just sent in my reservation. A cinch for me as I live in Brevard, a quick trip up the Blue Ridge to Asheville/Swannanoa.

It is, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the surrounding countryside are great riding roads. I have ridden the area several times from New England, this will be a first on my MK111, over a thousand miles.
I am asking the folks who live around Asheville to recommend some favorite roads. If anyone rides to the southern end of the BRP, there is a great museum there, The Museum of the Cehrokee Indian.
If you have the time, ride up Mt. Mitchell, see the Natural Bridge, Little Switzerland, and Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley. If you are coming down from the North, check out Skyline Drive, it runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. I leads you right to the BRP. There are campgrounds on Skyline Drive and the Parkway.

I just booked. Blue Ridge Parkway should be fun from Ontario.
I just realized that I have to pay my dues to the INOA. I'll get that done tonight and then register for the event.
It should be a great trip.

Got my campground reservation done...

I am 2 hours north east of asheville in Tn. There are some great roads all around there. I will give everyone that is thinking of riding the blue ridge parkway a heads up. It is a federal park and can carry a very hefty fine for speeding last I heard as much as $500.00. If any body wants to come or leave early I do have a small campground 2 hours away (see sig line ) and might be talked in to giving some guided rides for you guys that are coming a long way and can spend some extra time.

If I remember correctly, the speed limit is 35 on the BRP. On M/C trip down there,I was following a beat up, dirty white car, he was going just under the speed limit. I thought about passing him, but I was not in a hurry. A few miles later he pulled over and stopped. As I passed him I could see the driver in uniform and blue lights on the dashboard. Anyway, you don't need to go too fast to enjoy the road.

The speed limit changes but it is either 45 or 35 depending the section. Like you said it has a lot to see so no need to go fast. You can spend a few days on it if you stop on most of the overlooks.

I am hooked up for the trip.

I just had a bike picked up here in Florida and shipped to Matt at CNW. The driver specializes in motorcycle transport, and seemed to understand taking good care of bikes.

I approached the subject of West Coast Norton guys who might come to the rally. He suggested that he would be willing to do a Interstate 5 pickup. That is starting in Seattle and ending in LA or San Diego, and bringing bikes to Ashville. And, then of course return them. If he could get 6 or 8 bikes for the trip, the cost per bike might be reasonable. And of course, depending on his route across the US he could pick up bikes

My dad and I are riding up on Sunday from Niagara Falls Canada (Actually Niagara Region - Pelham area) . Already booked a Lake Side spot.

I asked the same thing in an email, and this is the reply I got for a tentative schedule

Monday 7/13 check in and kids field events... "Big Dog" dinner will all the fixins and sides
Tuesday 7/14 group ride and taste of asheville food trucks
Wednesday 7/15 tech session, field events, group ride
Thursday 7/16 chapter meeting, ride to wheels through time museum
Friday 7/17 bike show, awards banquet
