Norton Rigid 1936 ES2

I would not have though an ES2 would go fast enough to create a breeze to make that duct work.
 
Your ES2 is actually a bit of inspiration. I'd like to get it into a pre-war class in historic racing. It might be a lot of fun.

So in between putting the bike back together I still have a few parts to make, one being a silencer, I made a fishtail previously but when I offered it up it didnt spin my wheels so this has been on the back burner until last weekend. This time the degree of difficulty is the bike is in bits so no real chance to offer it up but I am far happier with the is design. Still some way to go but you get the finished article but you idea.....



 
Perhaps you need to do some research and find out what Nortons actually were in the early 1930s ? Authenticity can add value. I know you need a silencer, but fitting something which is from a much later era, might not be good. The noise problem can sometimes be handled by changing the valve timing - later exhaust valve opening. Some of the quickest race bikes have been quiet.
 
Be sure to shake up the Red Line lightweight shockproof oil before using. It will separate out into a grayish grease and blue oil in the jug. This worries me a little bit since I don't put on many miles anymore and the bike is parked for the winter. In use I hope it will mix back together quickly.
Other than that, it is sticky wonderful stuff and seems to keep the rust off the shift mechanism which is above the standing oil level.
 
Batrider - ok good advice I am still letting the old oil run out the box so will wait and see how I get on

Acotrel - if you had seen what the bike came with I doubt any thought went into it at all....this has - noise on the other hand will need to wait till its back together to prove.....

Bit more work on the silencer before I ran out of argon.

 
Paul, there are several words which have different meanings but are often used interchangeably - Price, cost and value. The true value of your ES2 might not be what you think it to be. It is very rare these days to find and old bike in close to original condition. What you have is close to the Norton road racers of the early 1930s. I would love to own it. I'd look at what those old Nortons actually were and work towards it. My Seeley Commando has been developed that way. I try to build some authenticity into it, even though it really never existed.
 
Begining to look like a re-pro old bike now, all too new , you can lead a horse to water---, still on the bright side you do still have some photo's of what a genuine bike with patina looks like.

Ride it once in the rain and the patina will be brand new.
