Decided to start a new thread as the old one is nothing but broken photobucket links. If I had the time I would fix them but too many other things to do. Here's a link to the original thread. https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/mitchs-74-basket-case.20382/
Here's what I started with

After a little over 3 years here is the end result.

First start up today. Took a few kicks but found it was flooded. Once I got that cleared she roared to life. Everything sound good, no smoke out the tailpipes. Several problems to fix though. First was no oil return. It was blowing out around the oil filter but none was making it back to tank. Found the return line was kinked.

Also had a fuse blow due to an uncovered connection and the right hand carb is leaking gas, need to reset the float level. But overall, I was chuffed.

Nice work and great result. Fired up the Titanic for the second time yesterday after replacing the overhead oil line and resetting the left carb float which was flooding out the tickle hole. Too damned cold to leave the garage door open for long, but no smoke or untoward rattles.

BTW, I can see your old pics on the original thread with the Botophucket patch for Chrome. I think there are patches for other browsers also.

What happened to the blue-painted tank and sidecovers?

Thanks guys. The blue tank and sidecovers are going on the next project, the 71 Commando. Probably start working on it sometime this spring.

Really nice job there sir, you should be justifiably pride!

I just love that RWB paint scheme, maybe one day I’ll get around to having that done on mine.

Nice to see a man with a nice workshop too!

Did the paint ourselves on this one. Rattle can Duplicolor white, red and blue. My wife, Pat, taped off and masked the stripes. Decals on, then shot it with Spraymax clearcoat. Colorsanded with 1000,1500,2000 grit. Compounded and then waxed.

very nice work....did using the spraymax over the decals present any troubles? happy new year

They were actually stickers, not decals. No problems using the spraymax over them. That Spraymax is some nasty stuff, an isocyanate. Be sure and use a quality respirator, cover all bare skin and wear eye protection. Also, spray in a well ventilated area.

After a winter hiatus, she made her first road trip. Only about 20 miles but enough to get up to operating temps. Up and down the gearbox. Few short throttle bursts up to 4500 rpm. No leaks when we got home. Sounded good and even idles, no smoke. Chain rubbing the chain guard is only complaint.
