Gearbox assembly

Oops nearly forgot to mention, very very similar box to a 1200 sportster Harley, just not as good as they never go wrong.

New or old gearbox, they are both the same. Just made in different country's.
Early ones with billet end plate made in the UK.
Later ones with cast end plate made in Taiwan.
Both the same as Harley Sportsters.

Does anyone actually know any details about this Harley gearbox topic?

Whilst your comments are very interesting 961story, they’re not very helpful in terms of specifics.

Can one buy a 1200 sporty cluster and drop it straight in a 961?

Or is it just that some components are interchangeable?

Or is it just that the 961 design is ‘based on’ the Sporty design and actually nothing is interchangeable?

There are LOTS of Sportsters / Buell around, many quite hopped up, and there are many sources for gearbox parts. So it would be very interesting to know if these sources could be used to buy from for the 961.

The dreer bike was but the norton 961 from england is not.

I even called baker to see and they also confirmed not the same.

I’m sure there are some individual gears that may fit but I cannot confirm.
