Fullauto's 850 rebuild

I feel 100% better after seeing your shop; maybe I'm not really all that messy (relatively speaking)

The bike sure is looking nice.

Thats life when you have more than one bike in the workshop and building another, my shed gets so messed up when working and usualy takes a few day to tidy it up after any major work and getting rid of the empty beer cans help  anyway the Norton is looking good.

Whats the point of micro polishing the trans gears and parts? Relieving micro stress risers? Smoother shifting?

We'll see, won't we? Then I won't die wondering.

Well, it's somebody else's shop, and it's at least as messy as mine, so I feel much better.

While I truly appreciate some of the "operating room" caliber shops that appear on the forums, mine wouldn't stay that way once I get on a good thrash with 2 or 3 bikes (as I am now), no matter how hard I try.

Back on topic, I always like to take a shot of that space between the crankcase & tranny case during the final assembly (as fullauto has done)- "it'll never be that clean again"

What about the horn? I did not see a horn on the list. Are you going to have a horn? If so, what kind of horn? Do you have one already? What about a relay? A lot of people are using relays with horn. I like relays, and horns of course. Have you started assembly without the horn and do you now have to start over?
HORN!
Toot toot aaaaaaaAAAAAAA beep beep Disco lives.

Still waiting. Y'know, if you put anything else onto the frame, you won't be able to get the horn in. I didn't put relays on mine. I put relays on the headlight. I like bacon.

Seriously, keep adding pictures as you go along. I love the eye candy!

Hi Ken, you put any thought into doing engine cases?
JUG

Why do what's already done?
Who else beside Steve Maney are doing top quality cases?
JUG

Who else needs to to them? How big is the market for them vs how much effort is required to tool up for them?

I'm not being persnickety here, the point is that Steve does do super strong ones... as does some outfit in NZ, who do jewel like machined from billet ones... Andover Norton do new (claimed stronger) standard ones, and good second hand ones are plentiful and readily available.

So its a very different situation to heads (and the future alloy barrels) where no-one else was doing them, and Ken identified, and filled, a niche demand with a great product.

All only IMHO of course...

Nearly all alloy items these days will be stronger, the alloys and treatments are far better than days of old. The Fullauto head is very nice, the Steve Maney items are lovely and light, but the cost, price, longevity equation comes into play for everyday users who want it for the road.

Yep. Basically I want to fill gaps in the offerings that aren't made. I don't want to tread on anybody else's toes. I know other people do alloy cylinders but mine will look standard. I have a set of Steve Maney's barrels on my Norton.

Ken, since Quaife stopped doing one, it seems to me there is a gap in the market for stronger gearbox shells...
