Are gaskets required on both side of manifold to head insulator?

The Andover drawing shows no gaskets (1 & 1A are 1/16" & 1'8" thick respectively):

I use a paper gasket on either side of the phenolic spacer along with Yamabond. Phenolic is not a gasket. If you apply yamabond on the phenolic and the head the intake will suck all the gasket goo and there will be an air leak. That makes an airtight seal. for the carb to manifold I rely on the o-ring.

That might depend on the insulator surface.
I got a Bakelite insulator off M,M and I Engineering which got a light coat of WellSeal to all four surfaces and left to tack off.

Heat might still soak through to the manifolds via the fasteners at rest with a hot engine.

Lots of disagreements on this!

I say: Amal specified them, Norton, Triumph, BSA, et. Al. used them. None of them specified gaskets or sealers as far as I know. I certainly do not. If they are not in good condition, I change them.

Another application where spray Copper Coat comes to the rescue.

Question.

Would the fitting of a thicker insulator (eg. 06.2700 - 1/8") require any changes to the carb set-up (single Amal in my case)?

Nice phenolic. When you remove the manifolds see if there is any wellseal left

No, I use them on all manifolds that are 32mm at the head end. The are not suitable, IMHO, for manifolds that are 30mm (1-1/8") at the head end.

I used paper both sides and a bit of blue hylomer and mine are rubber mounted , cooler carbs .
What bits are you using to do this? Is it the Mk2 adapter + ???
I've been thinking about rubber mounting my carbs, but have not really found any suitable bits

I use Hylomar M or Advanced which I get from here:
