Café Commando build thread

Thanks for the heads up on the Grimeca lynxnsu. Interesting as I've never heard of this before, definitely something to watch out for or be wary of.

I am at the Empire rally if anyone wants to see it in the flesh. I still have the 20 foot paint job so put your cameras on low resolution if you want to snap some pics

Great result Jean, very impressed. Have you done enough miles to have an opinion on the seat yet?

No, I have only taken it up and down the street, I will put that on my "things to report on" list

A white base is easily the hardest to recolor digitally. And red is one of the harder colors to reproduce. Some of the red paint job that folks have look very spectacular.

With this bike I would think you would want a color that compliments the bike and all of the details you applied. Red almost competes. Something like silver or a nice pearl may compliment the bike better.

My daughter agrees, silver would look good. Can you photoshop it silver so I can get a feeling on the look. The Norton logo would be black to stand out ?

Thanks, I will ask my painter to do it in silver metalflake if possible with some pinstripes like the old manxes had. Paint will be done in the fall when I am certain everything works right.

Where did you get your ethanol proof GRP tank I wonder? Bearing in mind the cost of alloy, and the poor quality of the new steel tanks, a guaranteed E fuel proof GRP tank seems a realistic option.

Didn't you see what I did :?: Check out the full thread, the answer is there. I know you will disapprove, but I don't really care what you think.

I would imagine if your tanks not new its been repaired in some way with wonder tank "sealer" of some kind? Might a new alloy tank not have been a better idea?

Perhaps you missed the part where he doesn't care what you think?

Jean watch out during your test rides, the speed natzis are out with the start of construction holidays.

Hey Ho Jean, loved seeing you and your wispy airy creation on 21" wheels at INOA. Most open view C'do I've seen yet, though Peel is very close > with the water tank and air station removed, which are only needed for hi boost low octane run events.
Only thing I like more on Peel OIF frame is lack of garden hoses to route oil. Wouldn't take you much to adapt the frame tubes for that too, then I'd have nothing on your creation space use wise. I didn't see a battery dang it, how you'd do that or did ya?

I used the hoses I could find fast, same for the hose clamps to get it running in time for the rally. Nice meeting you too, any chance you will have Mrs Peel running by next year :?: she would look a lot better without the air compressor and water tank, that is like putting cheap makeup on Raquel Welch.

Will, I am always, well mostly carefull about speeding.

Its within reason to have Peel roadworthy in a year. Peel purpose besides first pleasing me safely stunt as possible in Ozarks is to try to embarrass elite racers in handling more power quicker around tough tracks. To do that will take about 3x's Combat power and do that on pump gas she needs anti-detonation fluid. Also not to wheelie uselessly she must tuck down from 2" over stock height in front to at least 1" lower than factory, to do that I'll use air muscles with compressor. With 112 octane she would not need the toy sub or water tank. With straps would not need air muscles for some spring event. To throw over farther - taller stance allows more lean, so may be able to show and run her w/o the clutter. On the other hand fooling folks on what she really is - after a first wrong impression is core of my hobby forced on me a few years ago.

Hmmm, ya know what, if I was to weld up the volume of spine and under tube that could hold water and allow more light to pass through like yours, hmmm. How could it be made to hold say 50 PSI?

Hey Jean
I was also impressed with the bike at the Rally. Couldn't help but notice how much higher it sits. I wonder how she will handle once you get some time on the road. Hopefully nothing funky at high speed.
Cheers

Why not make two tanks side by side under the engine, one holds air and one holds water. Maybe we should move this to your Peel build thread...

It probably looks higher than it is because of the empty space. While it is higher, it is only about one inch, partly because of the wheels and partly because of the forks / shocks.

Seems strange that he also doesnt seem very concerned about his GRP tank failing?

More concerned you didn't read through the thread as requested.
