Do you mean how far out do you shim it as you can only shim it so far before it hits the degree scale.

If this is the case I wouldn't bother
I've seen rotors running 1/4" out and they still charge just the same

Custom shortened standoffs for the stator would be the way to do it, but that has limitations and as mentioned not really necessary. As baz mentioned it will charge with the face of the rotor back from the face of the stator. It looks wrong, but actually a bit more than 1/4" will still keep the battery in good shape.
