I believe the evel handling reputation is largely an extension of the handling of the early H1 and first gen H2. Also, kawasakis of this era had more spring guides than shocks on the rear.

One thing I do is use a tire such as an IRC or Ching Shen which has a little less grip. Better to have tires slide a little then wind up the frame. Besides, they are more fun and last longer when doing burnouts. Well, OK, I admit that most of my burnouts are behind me. Still there are fun bikes and very reliable.

In college in the 1970s I was lucky enough to buy a 75 Z1B. One of my riding buddies had an early H2. It had over 40K Miles on it and never had a head off. And that guy could do big smoky hole shots and did them daily.

Get it running and it will be a lot of fun. In a lot of ways its the anti norton. But I still dislike the location of neutral below first gear. Maybe makes sense for drag racing but not my cuppa.

The undercut transmission gears work perfectly!

I didn't have brass to compensate for the mountain conditions. (2800')

Trying to sharpen it up a bit, down one size on mains, one size down on the pilots, dropped the needle one notch.

I agree.

Paint cured a month, time for wax.

Bob,

Would you care to explain this?

Pete
Well, remember in elementary school, we were exposed to a bit of Greek mythology?

The story of how Icarus flew to close to the sun.

I was absent that day....😜🤣

Typical melt down, both edge of crown AND the hole in the center. Detonation.

Damn Bob, I was hoping it wasn’t that H-2 rebuild.
With a little luck maybe you can salvage most of the parts. I think the pistons will buff out.
You know that’s a 2-stoke, you have to mix the oil with the fuel right

Sorry, couldn’t resist

Back in the day packs of Kwai’s rode down our Main Street looking for Nortons most nice evenings , you could sit on park bench watch & listen for the digs on edge of town …. Police busy chasing underage drinkers around , only one car on duty at a time back then 😁 …. Think I already posted photos of the 2 guys on Norton that flew through side of bread truck on Prince st our main st, some time ago ….
