Are these repo speedo gear boxes any good?

If anyone knows where to find the oval lube advisement decal that came on the original I'd be grateful - thanks!
 
The only Harris one I had was good.

I have used many of the current EMGO ones (from Wassell). Most for Triumphs were good but two of them the internal part that connects to the cable was round (they forgot to square it) had to send them back.

All for Norton ended up good but none were good without effort. They come greased and the window where the gears meet usually had stuck chips of metal from machining. Knowing that, you can get it off before testing and they are good. Let a piece of it fall into the gears and don't it out before turning the gears and you have a fight on your hands. Put it on the bike thinking they will be ground up and hurt nothing - think again! They will absolutely stop the wheel if turning by hand and I was never brave enough to try it under power. It could be fixed by now - I fully reported it was promised that it would be fixed
 
Or, buy a new grease fitting at your local hardware store that fits your existing grease gun.

I use a pump syringe grease cartridge meant to lube the bar of a chain saw. You can find them where chain saws are sold.
It also works well to lube the shoe actuating cams on my front brake plate. Most cams can be easily modified if not so provided.

I looked at replacing the zerk, but standard ones protrude into the drive unit, potentially interfering with worm gear.

Grind away the first few threads ?
Or shim the Zerk with tiny washers so it doesn't protrude into the worm gear . The big worm gear is the item to be protected and greased regularly .

Cutting the inner protruding end didn't work, as it messed up the inner check valve spring.

Shim more outwards ?
Owning a Norton means the wonderful world of shimming .
Isolastics , layshafts , primary chain alignment , rotors , etc.
 
I had one of these strip the teeth in 500 miles. I managed to find a NOS Smiths original but then the speedo cable sheared. I recon the problem was the speedo cable inner being too long and locking up in the speedo head when tightend up which seems to be a common problem with some brands. Best attach the cable to the speedo head first then check if the inner feels tight at the drive end by hand before attaching to drive gearbox else things can start to get expensive!
#By the way, do you guys stare at ladies "Zerks" over there? Like Jungle Pam maybe?
