I have placed a wanted ad, but also realsie that not everyone frequents the ads section so I’m posting here too:

I am on the hunt for an 18” rear Morris wheel, of the type fitted as an option to late the T140 and TSS etc.

Its the rear I need, but would happily buy a pair if that’s what it takes.

Any offers, or leads, gratefully received.

It’s the Morris ones I’m after, not the Lester type. The Morris ones have single silver ‘vane’ pair spoke whereas the Lesters have two silver ‘vanes’ per spoke

Have you looked at these?

Thanks Rob, I’ve seen them already

But the rear alone is £1320 plus vat …

And it’s too wide.

A front may fit on the rear, but I don’t know if that’s wise, and I didn’t really want this to turn into a big engineering job. I have submitted questions regarding this to TGA.

If they did a matching 19” front / 18” rear combo of the correct widths, I’d go for it as they’re very light and do look top drawer quality.

I suppose you know a pair was sold last week on evilbay UK, I was tempted but not enough to bid. If I come across any , will let you know. I do have a pair of T140D Lesters , rear converted to take Smiths speedo drive.

I do Sam, full story:

I bid on and won the front, and bidon and lost the rear.

I don’t bid higher on the rear as I had already spoken to dealer who had a NOS rear.

So imagine my disappointment when I rang the dealer to buy it, only to be told: “sorry mate, my mistake, it’s actually a front wheel…”

Ok, thanks for that !

Have you forgotten how heavy those things are?

You just need a time machine
I bought a pair of these brand new out of Slocombes in Neasdon in 1982 for £250
Two years later I put the bike backwards into a lampost ,smashed a section out of the rim beyond repair
After phoning round all the bike shops I found one for sale at Richard Hackers
When I got down there the wheel he had was a Lester! ! FFS
After creating he agreed to sell me the 6 bolt sprocket and disc needed at cost price
So I ran it with a Lester on the back and Morris on the front until I could find a Lester front to match
That accident cost me a fortune
By the time I'd paid for the lampost
And bike repairs

I weighed the bare front wheel at 5.01kg. That seems to align more or less weight that LCR Ken posted in his wheel weight comparison thread. Which I think makes it a tad lighter but more or less the same as a stock wheel? Plus, it can be run tubeless which saves another lbs or two.

The new Marvic made Morris reps are quite a bit lighter (magnesium). They don’t offer the right widths though, or a 19” version. Good job really as they ain’t light on the bleedin’ wallet !

It is possible that on another forum, someone is asking if anyone has a Morris front wheel for sale as he wanted the pair that were on fleabay, but some bugger outbid him and now he is stuck with a rear wheel and no matching front wheel....

Are you on T-Rat? may be worth asking there.

I did spot this on fleabay;

is the back wheel on that bike the type youre looking for?

Well spotted
That's a Morris mag
Eddie could buy it and get a free a65 !

:)

I would imagine that FE could buy the A65, remove the Morris wheel, replace it with a suitable spoked wheel and sell the bike on. Is it a Thunderbolt? doesnt twin carbs make it a Lightning?

Yep it's a lightning head at least
Looks like a Honda front wheel to roll it around
Soppy chrome shocks etc
Oif a65 was supposed to be the best of the bunch ,cast oil pump etc
Fragile timing side main did for it really
I had one for a couple of years
I used to get through gears and selectors
Sheared woodruff key on the clutch
Etc
Terrible vibration, but my mate has a thunderbolt oif that's very smooth

Yeah good call, that is kinda possible, but I don’t think so though. The rear wheel sold first and the other bidder was VERY keen, but he didn’t even bid on the front.

Thank’s to Chris, it seems I’m on the verge of securing a good rear wheel 🤞
