961 is back !

Honestly, you guys need to do some research and see who uses Jenvey and what they can build. If you ask Keihin to build what Norton asked Jenvey to build, what do you think you’d get?.

They don’t use Keihin on Singer Porsches.
The bodies used for Porsche, whether its a small bore or 50mm like they use on the Singer-engined Porsche, are a little different than those used on the 961. And the Porsche engine is just a little more refined of an engine so when Singer uses Jevey versus a Weber carb it's not quite apples to apples when compared with a 961. On a Porsche 964 like Singer producing a throttle body is the only way to get the performance out of the engines they are building. I think I would take the Webers myself.

Agreed, but it shows that they have a capability of manufacturing to a certain level - they just need to be tasked with that.

I think that Norton got what they were willing to pay for .
Tony,
That may be the case since the V4 uses different Jenvey TBs, and as far as we know, it doesn't have the fueling issues that the 961 had. Lets see with further test reports, if TVS, through whatever means, has solved the fueling issues with the introduction of the NEW 961.

Since removing the IAC and plugging the throttle body/crossover its been "sweet as a nut" as they say . The starting is good and the idle has been a fantastic 1150 rpm when warm . I am just plain happy with the Jenvey throttle body now .

the CCO on the video said that the Commando will always be part of the range, and that about 350 parts had been altered/ better materials etc, and that TVS is over 100 year old company.

Well, nice to see a positive gesture on FB. Our own @norton_rider sharing his thoughts...

961 is back !

Was wondering if that might see the light of day haha! Get ready for a long post a very long one! As you say Cliffa it was nice for them to even recognise / engage with an ordinary Norton enthusiast like me compared to some of the absolutely huge bloggers who were at the show.

I was on the stand about a microsecond when the ladies from the social media team came over chatting as they'd been looking at my instagram and enjoyed the restorations I was really suprised they had took an interest as my page is pretty tiny say compared to the vintagent and stuff like that but everyone who follows is pretty much British bike obsessed like me and I'd been critical about some of the things on the 961 / way people with existing bikes have been treated which I still stick to.

For those that don't know when the mkii sport came out I was literally on the verge of signing for finance on one so could have been in the same boat as everyone else regarding parts and issues. Reason I didn't get one was that the finance rates rent sky high on me the day I was gonna go through with it.

Talked at length about the changes I'd like to see from my own personal perspective having ridden the 1927 16h flat tank in winter the 650ss as a daily and the 68 Commando briefly before it came apart.

I also stressed the need for more affordable bikes smaller cc bikes and something along the lines of a 500 long stroke single with about 50hp to rival the himalayan as that's what I'd like to see Fantic actually had an interesting big cc single with 50hp and 150kg dry weight for £6,500.

Otherwise people my age being in my early 30s and younger who havnt got disposable income (I only got the classic stuff through working 70+ hour weeks not drinking smoking having nights out an no social life an staying at home as my parents are motorcycle obsessed as me) are gonna end up going to Enfield and the BSA over the Japanese bikes to as they seem to be out pricing themselves and Triumph are to a point as well. An then if Enfield start bringing a few higher end bikes out you end up with customers who are loyal to the brand I recently tried ktm with dad both bikes got rejected at under 300 miles an now I'm on my 3rd BMW GS reason being that when I had a major issue with the GS BMW went above and beyond to sort it and that's my main gripe with Norton at the moment as I said to them regardless of what it says at companies House in my opinion they are still using the Norton Motorcycles not moto or motorbike or Norton cycle on the tank, so in my book a company the size of TVS should be taking care of anyone with the V4 or 961 I could have been a 961 owner.

After that the ladies asked for a picture on the 961 even though my shoulders not quite right I asked to sit on the cafe which confirmed my thoughts years ago on liking the sport as I tend to mile munch and 600 mile days are not unusual :) it was an interesting day and an interesting conversation where it was nice to be able to get my thoughts across about what I'd like to see from Norton I thought the fit and finish on the 961 actually was head and shoulders above some of the other bikes in show best switchgear went to the Harley in my book or the BMW though. Paintwork on the Norton was nice.

They were offering test rides out to anyone at the show but I declined as an afternoon out on a bike isn't enough to assess it some major issues only show up in winter or at altitude like they did with our ktms.

My parting line to them was it's great and everything but now get us some affordable models out for the rest of us as Pa Norton always had the big 4 in the lineup for the everyday rider who needed a reliable and affordable as far as Nortons go anyway steed.

I stressed in my opinion they need to look at the history of Norton a few models stand out as a road map which I'd be interested in seeing but I do get that they had to sort the 961 out, so they could get a bike to market and itl be interesting to see what comes out over the next few years. I did clock the orange seat on the naked v4.

I'll certainly never be one off those pro influencers that's for sure as I'm far to outspoken and prefer to be that way, when I did photography Pro I was offered to review some cameras but you are far to shackled by what you are allowed to say and not say so declined hence not being in that industry. I can already see on instagram and videos the hyper positive spin alot of pro reviewers are doing which reminds me of the Donnington era bikes. Itl be interesting to see if anyone who's ran a classic Norton or the Donnigton era 961 gets a leg over one those are the reviews I'd like to see from people that have lived with them.

They did look absolutely beautiful though there's no denying that but for me function over form is very important.

I did tell them to check out the forums to as the target audience is here on Access Norton.

For those interested here's my show review post on instagram linked and the text bellow is from that hit the word limit on instagram for it.
They are naturally just my own thoughts as a passionate Norton owner an what I'd like to see in addition to the 961 in the range the v4s hold no interest for me as I've done the whole superbike thing and know how usless they are on the road with speed limits good for track though which I've also done.

Norton have since liked the post so at least they are listening all being well. I felt it very important to speak out for current Donny era Norton owners an that was my main focus of the conversation yesterday.

motorcyclelive had a great day out today ^__^ checking out some very interesting bikes :)

Was great to meet the ladies from social media norton.motorcycles an have a chat about what I'd like to see as someone that rides vintage and Classic Nortons from 1927 to 68 365 days a year.

Few things I'd love to see on a mk4 Commando a headlight a similar size to the 700 Lucas. 360 degree firing order everyones gone 270 degree mad so itd make for a more authentic and unique difference a 750 or 850 and ditch a load of weight, a hyper comfy double seat like the one on my 68 Commando all day comfort on that and a 68 style tail unit would really sharpen it up, propper gold pin striping on the black Commando's and a LR Interstate 750 version.

What I'd really love to see is a 16H to rival the Himalayan 500cc light long stroke single conventional forks and dash 50hp that'd get my vote for sure! It's great to see the brand back and I'm glad the Commando is still going especially with a pushrod engine nice to see!

Itd be good if they offered a quality control upgrade kit to previous 961 owners I very much could have been in that boat as a few of my friends are as I nearly bought one in the SG era.

Other bikes the suzukibikesuk Vstrom 800 I felt was a bit of a step back having the parallel 270 degree much the same engine that everyone's doing, as everyone knows I loved my Vstrom 650xt, the only thing that stooped me getting another was the insurance being much more than my 2018 1200 GS Rallye figure that one out!

The bsamotorcyclesofficial look an interesting proposition especially that scrambler but I'd make the switchgear higher quality and especially the grips, the first contact on the bike are so important.

royalenfieldeurope enough said knocking it out of the park as usual, even though the 450 is on the horizon Id love to see the 410 bumped up to 35hp and drop weight

thenationalmotorcyclemuseum IDST Triumph now there's a bike I'd love to own beautiful and bike design done right 🥰😍

I'm sure others will post pics much better only had my phone with my as my neck was a bit to sore to lug a few kg of camera gear around.

Here's two of the 961.

Thanks Stu glad you enjoyed very much from the heart I nearly couldn't afford to go but felt I had to go.

Worked out an expensive day but interesting :) enjoy the show an let us know what you think. I found it interesting that I was saying to dad back in 09 I didn't think I'd be looking at BSA, Norton Triumph and Enfield + Dot motorcycles those are exquisite btw worth checking out at the show.

Thanks for taking the time to write up your experience. It would be great to see a factory representative on here.

I would love to see that, but it would probably be a double edged sword for TVS/Norton.
Great for them to tell us all about their wonderful products, plans, etc...
But they would also have to suffer the slings and arrows from irate members.
While I think the factory having a presence here would show that they have confidence, and stand behind their products, let's be practical, forums can be a very combative, and some times abusive environment.
Knowing all this, I hope someone at Norton still has the onions to join this forum, and interact with members.

No chance.

They’d be stark freakin’ ravin’ mad !!
