Norton trouble

Just an amusing aside is that the Garner empire was advertized- probably still is- recently for a mere 44 million Pounds whilst another enterprise of a very dear friend of his roughly in the same field still is at an undisclosed figure. Both empires have been for sale for years, the undisclosed one for over a decade. Both protagonists were/are too greedy to take realistic offers until it was too late. Comrades in spirit and ethics? I wonder.

Here’s a thought- Crowd funding campaign for Cootes Norton. Richard and Dave have already done so much for the 961 on their own dime- repair manuals, research on sensors, bearings, etc, made specialized tools, numerous contributions to this forum with improvement ideas, technical support, offers to provide hands-on teaching, engine rebuilds, collaboration with CNW, the list goes on. Now they’re talking about repair how-to videos. I wouldn’t even have bought mine if it wasn’t for them. All of that costs money and time. It’s unbelievable to me that Norton didn’t utilize and leverage that knowledge and commitment to the brand. They could have sold many more 961’s in North America. I plan to keep mine forever and would be happy to contribute to a Cootes Norton campaign. How many other 961 owners on this forum would also be willing?

Interesting idea.
It would of course depend on the willingness of the principal participant to be part of the plan.

My wife just asked me a question, I didn’t have an answer (not unusual for men I know!)
“If people have paid in full for motorcycles from Norton, why can’t the administrators call back the stock from dealers and give those people the chance to say whether they want the bike or not?”
I am sure there must be a good reason - do dealers pay for bikes before they sell to customers?

Dealers usually pay for the bikes they get from manufacturers . So somebody would have to pay the dealer for him to give up the 961 they have on the floor. Now knowing this , it would have been safer for the 961 buyers to go to the dealer and buy bikes that were actually on the floor ! FE's very nice black 961 may still be available for those wanting one. The problem is that the dealer who has his bike won't be giving it away !

Looking at their web site Tony I believe they’ve sold it. Which is interesting as A LOT of their other used stock hasn’t moved at all.

Perhaps not Tony but dealers holding Norton stock will not want to pick up the warranty issues so look for significant bargains to shift from the floor - can they sell without warranty?

and there is a carbon -wheeled 961 on ebay uk for under £10k right now, just saying.....
One fifth already the value of the wheels, may be... and then the Oehlins, may be one third... if it has an alloy tank, there wouldn’t be a lot for the rest.

So if Norton rises from the ashes again, will this be the Access Norton modern “Modern” forum? Version 2.3

I thought I’d seen that bike b4 , here it is in Norton factory showroom October 2017, certain it’s a one off , used in fashion clothing shoots with Norton clothing , pretty sure it was one never to be sold ! So now it’s ended up in a Yorkshire bike dealer s hands ?? Plot thickens https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F324050647919Norton troubleNorton trouble

That’s a nice looking bike IMHO, I like the black engine covers and black chrome pipes. I bet the dealer would take an offer on it, leaving some funds for the necessary ONE07 upgrades and bingo !

They are super rare, I'm snap that one up right away.

HA HAA.... Well there's one thing for certain.... i WON'T be gettin a Superlight now ......961 is STILL for sale....(at the moment);)

Don’t feel you need to share but I was aware of your next bike order, and when all this broke i was really hoping you hadn’t made a full up front payment. Hope it’s ok for you.

The Moto Guzzi Commando is actually an early Cafe Racer SP (Special) version.
Blacked out covers, pipes, alloy bits, etc..
