Anyone got or ridden a Himalayan?

Hi Cliffa

Yep that's the actual bike, it's got a couple of mods like the twin headlights, and they have put the pipe on, I only went by the guy from the bike shops word about the power, it'll have plenty for mum and a good sound is always good, I've got to work out getting it from Melbourne to Newcastle so hopefully we'll have it by end of next week. Looking forward to doing some test riding to make sure it's all sweet for the wife

Cheers

Bluedog

Bikes here and we put a couple hundred Kms on it today ... seems like a good thing so far Anyone got or ridden a Himalayan? Anyone got or ridden a Himalayan?

Thanks tornado generous offer but the wife isn't keen on the back seat anymore so I'll have to decline
And yes Cliffa it's a little beauty they lowered it for her stature and she's really enjoying it, and as the maintainer I'm getting quite a few miles up on it too ... nice little bike

Happy New Year folks.

My only gripe in almost a year of ownership is the seat. It's too narrow at the back for me and has a forward incline (like so many other modern bikes) so makes you slide forward constantly trapping / pressurizing your man bits, so I've ordered a seat foam and cover kit from Seat Concepts in the U.S.. Many "HIMMY" owners have already installed these and they are a massive improvement apparently. According to UPS it will arrive on Wednesday, but I won't get time to fit it for a couple of weeks. i'll post some pics when I've done it.

They do two versions, I've gone for the tall.

Hope it sorts it for you. Ive had similar issues on my t100 bonne after fitting taller rear shocks (Thruxton length) for better cornering and overall ride performance. If I use a nice looking contoured gel seat I find I'm sliding forward on long rides. My other two seats are flatter and dont have such issues.

Flatter seat are definitely better in my view. In 2018 while I was on holiday in Corsica, I rented a Honda NC750X. It was a great bike, but the seat was awful - always rolling me forward - I was glad to get off it. Then when I got back to where we were staying I Googled the issue, and there where loads of posts about it. Makes you wonder who road tests these bikes at the factory.

How did you go Cliffa this is a great idea I had my wife’s seat lowered a bit to compensate for her height after all it is her bike, but I really like riding it so investment in a tall seat might be ideal.

Hey Bluedog 55, sorry for the late reply. The foam kit arrived a couple of weeks ago, but in the meantime I managed to get a second hand seat with a ripped cover off EBay, which means I can keep the original. (They are actually quite cheap new as well). Anyway, the cover and foam fits really well and I was able to fit it with a hand tacker. As mentioned I went for the high seat, and it's a good job I have a long inseam (31") as I can only just get my feel down flat. On the plus side, my knees are away from the pointy bits on the bottom of the tank. I haven't had a chance to get out and see how comfortable it is yet as I've been busy on the Commando and I'm re-commissioning a Moto Morini Camel. Here are some pics...

As you can see it's a lot wider in the butt area, so i'm confident it will be a whole heap better, but more feedback to come when I get out on it.

All the best,

cliffa.

Cheers Cliffa, quite a bit wider too by look of it they actually lowered the suspension on hers as well, so I think it will do the job for me.

If you can find anyone else who wants a seat as well, they will give you some discount. My mate wanted one for his Yamaha too and they knocked off 10%.

Cheers,

In this case, some Japanese miget, (no offence to all the other migets in the world)

Well, I got to ride the bike with the new seat today. A vast difference. It puts you quite a bit higher, so your knees are not so bent, and it's way more comfortable, though quite firm. However a midget of any nationality is not going to get on this. I have big panniers on mine and with the inch and a half higher seat it's even more of a challenge to get your leg over the bike.

Are Scottish midgets excused kilts ?

Cheers,

cliffa.
