Reading up on the good the bad & the ugly and then checking the list of the notoriously bad things you don't want to find in your Combat Commando I did a tooth count of my sprockets to see if It had the low gearing that is said to have been used on Combats. What I found was a surprise. 21 tooth g/b and a 41 tooth wheel. I believe this is the way it came new as there is no sign of it being taken apart before and it only has 3000 miles on it. Then I found that the gearbox has a W stamped after the VIN number. I know that the old Triumphs had a WR stamped on them for Wide Ratio as I have collected a few to use with street bikes to take advantage of the low first gear for good take offs with a long ratio sprocket combo for smooth freeway cruising at lower RPM's. Anyone know if Commando boxes were ever stamped with a W for wide ratio???
